Snuggles

Omega was watching TV, curled up on the couch with a blanket. Cold rain poured outside, which had started quite suddenly. She couldn't help but worry that Red Sole was out in it - she did say that she was thinking about coming over. Once in a while she would check her phone and look out the window, wondering if Red Sole had texted or called, or was standing right outside. The only thing that stopped Omega from being worried sick was that her girlfriend never stated the time she was considering visiting - maybe she was still at home! Omega comforted herself with these thoughts for a bit, until she decided that she was going to get a cup of tea.

As the kettle boiled and Omega got the cup and tea bag, a loud knock could be heard from the door, then the doorbell rang.

"Oh, Cod..." Omega muttered as she ran toward the door, "Don't let this be Red Sole!"

Sure enough, Omega opened the door to the very inkling she hoped would not be there. The only reassuring aspect of it all was that Red Sole was wearing a good raincoat, but even with that, she was still soaked from head to toe. Still, she smiled broadly.

"Heya, Meg!" she chirped over the sound of rain outside.

"For Cod's sake, Red Sole..." Omega muttered, half frustrated, half anxious, "get inside. Quickly, now!"

"Whatever, mom," Red Sole taunted as Omega basically dragged her inside, "'S not like I'll catch a cold."

"Y-yeah, but..." Omega wasn't too sure where she was going.

It was just a myth that you could catch colds from being cold. Still, Red Sole looked frozen as she stood in the doorway. Her nose was running a bit, and her cheeks were flushed as they tried to re-warm themselves. While Red Sole hung up her jacket, Omega ran to get some blankets. As soon as she was sitting on the couch, Red Sole found herself covered in them. She had to admit, it was kind of cozy.

"Want anything to drink? I'm making tea right now," Omega stated, trying to fend off her fear.

"Sure, I'll have some," Red Sole smiled.

"OK. You're getting decaf, by the way!"

One time, Red Sole got her hands on caffeinated tea. Vintage was still mad at her for breaking one of their Square King Ranked Cup trophies.

Omega brought in the tea and sat down next to the bundled Red Sole. She turned on the TV to an anime that they both liked. It was a simple slice-of-life about a group of 11th-grade girls living their lives together. As the episode progressed, Red Sole began to feel very relaxed and a little sleepy. Before she knew it, her head was resting on Omega's shoulder.

Omega felt a little flustered at first. Sure, her and Red Sole shared the occasional hug and a kiss every now and then, but the two of them never actually snuggled. Looking at Red Sole, Omega saw that her eyes were slightly gazed over, and her face had fell into a resting smile. She leaned all of her weight on Omega, and she looked so peacefully languid, it led the more-stoic inkling to wonder if Red Sole was entirely aware of what she was doing. Did she even want to cuddle? Plagued by her uncertainty - and her lack of knowledge as to how to cuddle - Omega awkwardly wrapped a single arm around Red Sole.

The dazed inkling's eyes drifted toward the arm, and her face turned an even brighter pink. Still, a large smile spread slowly across her face, thrilled at the thought of snuggling. Grinning, she tucked her head under Omega's chin, silently prompting the latter to wrap Red Sole into a full hug.

"This is kinda nice..." Omega admitted, feeling her face heat up.

"Yeah..." Red Sole replied. "'Sides, you're warm..."

Red Sole somewhat slurred the last two sentences, and her sleepiness was somewhat contagious, as Omega could feel herself growing more and more relaxed. She loosened her grip on Red Sole, but still kept her arms flopped over Red Sole.

As waves of rain thrashed the windows and cold winds rattled the house, Omega and Red Sole laid on the couch, snuggled close, cozy and warm, as parts of both of them hoped that the rain would never end.
