Cank [Conan and Hank]

H a n k

The week following the party, Connor seemed to be almost depressed. He almost seemed to be in the mood I was in after my son died.

Of course I can understand the feeling of heartbreak. Whether it be rejection or losing someone you love; all heartbreak is the same.

The shattering feeling in your heart, feeling it drop to your stomach. Then feeling the subduing ache and numbness following. Afterwards you feel almost empty, and lose all interest in anything - or - everything.

And right now, Connor is going through the beginning stages of that.

I haven't seen him smile in what has felt like ages and it does break me slightly. I view Connor like he's my own flesh and blood - like a biological son to me. I would do everything I can to prevent him from being hurt, but asking Gavin out was his decision even if I argued against him and warned him not to do it.

When it comes to love, you really can't throw in opinions much. It is their choice on who they either want or grow to love.

But besides the fact of Connor's moping, I managed to score a date with the one and only Conan - well the only Conan in my life. Throughout the whole process of the party leading up to Connor's heartbreak, I spoke mainly to Conan. Getting to know things about him.

As well yes, I do remember questioning Connor on why he fell in love with Gavin, and that I didn't understand it, but now I do. Conan managed to catch my attention, and now I want him.

I smile gently to myself before glancing over in Conan's direction. It's just been Conan coming into work this past week. He stated that Gavin didn't want to come back to work for a while - that he was taking a leave until further notice. I could tell this broke Connor more since that meant Gavin wasn't comfortable being around Connor right now.

Conan also appears to be more awkward without Gavin here, but he is slowly adjusting.

"Lieutenant?" I glance over at Conan, his voice penetrating my ears and I force myself to not smile. He is way better at hiding the way he feels than I am. He still says that he's a deviant - and if he is then he won't be for much longer.

"Conan." I nod my head at him and shift my gaze away back to the papers I'm currently working on. "I went to the office and retrieved your paper work." Conan sets a stack of papers down beside me on the desk before giving a polite smile and sauntering off back to his own desk.

That smile erupted butterflies in my stomach.

I smile gently and turn back to my work, continuing to write down everything.

Connor and I were supposed to go back to the scene of our most recent case since we've been putting it off since the party, but again he didn't feel like going today.

Although tomorrow I will have to pressure him because we can't keep putting off this case.

The deviant is still free and we must catch him before he hurts anyone else.

"Connor, can I speak with you?" It's currently our break time and Connor and I am hanging out in the break room by ourselves. I told him to take a break after everyone else had so I could speak to him privately.

"Sure Hank." He doesn't glance at me but keeps his gaze cast toward the ground.

I sigh gently and pull out a chair at one of the tables, seating myself. Connor does the same sitting across from me.

"I understand this is hard, but you can't keep letting this prevent you from completing your work. We've been putting off a big case for the past few days and we need to get to work on it soon." Connor nods his head but continues to keep his gaze away from me.

"Connor." I reach over and grip his chin in between my forefinger and my thumb. "Con." He glances at me with his deep brown dull eyes. He looks so empty.

"You need to forget him for now. He's getting in the way of your work and your rates are dropping quickly. You were a star worker and now you're going in the hole." Connor nods his head gently. "You're right. Let's go." He stands up shoving his chair back gently before walking out of the room leaving me in my chair.

I glance down at my almost full cup of coffee and chuckle gently. Hopefully we'll have the normal Connor back soon.

- -

"Here Fowler." Fowler glances at me before grunting and I set the papers down on his desk. These papers are all our notes from the crime scene that we investigated earlier.

"You finally got down to business Anderson." I shrug and sit down in one of the chairs across from Fowler crossing my arms across my chest.

"I finally got Connor to work." He nods his head and stands up with the stack of papers before sliding them into a filing cabinet with what I can only assume is the decade worth the files.

"How is he doing. Connor. How is he doing?" I glance away and chew on my lip gently. "He's not doing the greatest. Gavin running out on him - for the second time - is really affecting him. Everytime I glance at him he just seems so broken and empty."

Fowler sighs and leans back crossing his arms over his chest. "I really hope Gavin can give him a clear answer sometime soon. I hate seeing one of my hardest workers take such a big hit. His career is dying Anderson." I nod my head.

"I know. Hopefully I can get him to start working more soon." Fowler nods his head. "Well, good work today. You guys can head home. I'll see you two tomorrow." I nod and stand up, exiting Fowler's office.

"Come on Con, it's time to head home." Connor looks at me and then gently nods his head. He packs up his items at a leisurely pace before walking over to my side. We exit the department together.

The car ride home was silent. I allowed Connor to use the time to think instead of bugging him with a million questions. I also used that time to think about what I'm going to do about my date with Conan. I got his number since they come programmed with one and I plan to call him soon.

I pull up to my apartment building, and we both exit the car before heading up the stairs to my place slowly.

"I'm going to go to bed Hank." I glance at Connor and nod my head. I'll allow him to do this. It's the least I can do.

"I'll see you tomorrow then." Connor walks off not uttering another word and I hear his door close gently.

I decide that tomorrow I'm going to ring Conan and ask him about the date. Although I'll keep this from Connor because I know it will only crush him more.

I sigh - I seem to be doing that a lot lately.

It's interesting how I know an android that is broken, and at the same time I managed to fall in love with one.
