Chapter 5: Fairies and Voices

Lucy was cooking lunch, when there was a knock on the door. Stepmother answered it.

"What do you wa-" her lips were in a puckered shape when she saw the royal knights from Bosco.

"You are invited to the royal ball at King Igneel's palace. All the young women in this house are to come," he stated.

"Oh! Right! Thank you!" Stepmother stammered.

After the knights left, Stepmother said, "Why are there 4 invitations? We only need 3." When she saw Lucy come out of the kitchen, she hid the 4th invite behind her back.

"Sorry, Lucy. There are only 3 invitations."

Lucy knew very well that there were 4 invites. She was listening to Stepmother talking to herself.

The day of the ball came. Stepmother, Yukino, and Sorano were leaving when Sorano whispered in Lucy's ear.

"The 4th Invite is in Mother's room."

Lucy nodded. She wasn't going to go anyway. She didn't have anything to wear.

Lucy cried so much.

Go outside to the juniper tree.

Lucy's head snapped up. Who was talking to her?

Go to the juniper tree. Hurry, A voice said in her head.

Lucy cautiously went to the tree outside.

A fairy with shoulder-length blue hair was there.

"Oh hello, there! I was passing by, and I saw this lovely juniper tree. Can you smell the berries?"

This voice was not the same voice that was speaking to her in her head.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Levy! May I ask why you've been crying, Lucy?"

"How do you know my name?"

"Well, a voice in my head told me that you would be here," Levy said with a shrug.

"Anyway, why are you crying? there are tear stains on your cheeks," Levy pressed.

Lucy explained everything to her. They had just met, but they became good friends quickly.

"Well," Levy said slowly, "I could try to make a dress for you."

"Really? Oh, that would be wonderful!"

Levy waved her wand, and Lucy found herself wearing a beautiful golden dress, her hair was in a fancy up do, and slippers made of pure gold.

Yes gold.

Fancy, huh?

"You better come back before midnight. My magic can't last that long," Levy warned.

"Thank you so much Levy!! You're a wonderful friend!"

Levy winked.

Get going. Hurry. You've wasted enough time, the voice said again.

"Right! I have to get going! See you soon Levy!"

Remember, the voice said. Midnight.
