Danni's POVI sat in the exact same spot I had before when Emily was here, replaying the events in my head.
She had come to me, whilst I was attempting to catch up on the masses of work I had let build up. And this was after she had walked out of my classroom in a frenzy. Trying to keep up with the mixed signals she gives off is exhausting.
Admittedly it is a confusing and sudden situation, so much has happened in the past few days and I have hardly made sense of it myself. But she seems to change her feelings about the entire thing in every instance that she is able to.
I rose from the couch and lifted the pizza box off my lap, now filled with only pieces of crust and empty pots of dip. The hues from the evening skies glared into the room and cast shadows on the walls, masking the many paintings and posters that were hung in every unoccupied spot.
Upon deciding that starting at a wall for 3 hours and eating pizza was not a satisfying enough way to wallow and collect your thoughts, I decided to throw on a hoodie and head out of the door.
As I stepped out, I was met by my neighbour opposite, Dan. He had a permanent smile on his pale face and was usually amazing company- but not today.
"Hey Danni! Just the person I was looking for. I need a favour." He mockingly tried to persuade me, by pouting and fluttering his eyelashes, to make his ocean eyes appear bluer than before.
"I'm sorry Dan, I'm actually really busy right now." I turned towards the stairs but he wasn't finished.
"I literally just need a ride to this girl's house, go on." At this point Dan was blocking the entrance to the staircase and preventing me from leaving.
I was not willing to give up on the soon to be my bottle wine, which I was originally going out to purchase. So I reluctantly obliged to Dan's request, but added "but you owe me" before we set off.
The car ride was only 5 minutes, but they were the most painful 5 minutes of my life, I had never wanted to be alone more than right now. The car was filled with Dan's rambling about every detail of his day, from what he had for breakfast to the amount of calls from his mother that he had ignored, and of course the occasional "Are you sure you're doing okay?" Punctuated his speech.
When I finally pulled up outside of Dan's hook up's house, he turned and thanked me before practically leaping out of the car and bolting towards the stranger's house.
Dan was one of the kindest people alive. We had been best friends ever since I moved into my flat a few months before, and he had been there for me at every struggle life seemed to throw in my direction, and I have done the same for him. But I felt I could not talk to Dan about this, or anyone in fact. Whatever 'this' was, it had to remain between myself and Emily for as long as I worked at the school.
After a few moments of thought, I started towards the local off-license store in the direction I came from. It was only a couple of minutes from my apartment, but as usual, I took the long way because driving helps me to gather my thoughts- which I'm usually doing when I am on my way to buy a bottle of wine.
I was beyond belief when I passed it to see the 'closed' sign in the door, and decided I did not have half the motivation the go to a different store.
I headed home, empty handed and deflated to see the mess I had let build up over the past few days. I decided to tackle it, starting with the beer bottles and plates on the coffee table, inches from where me and Emily had been a few hours before.
I started moving the bottles and uncovered a post-it note, which had been taken from my white board on the opposite wall. I could only assume that the note with the phone number and a ";)" just after it was from Emily.
Emily Brown is the most confusing person alive, but she had me exactly where she wanted me as I picked up my phone and started to punch in her number.
A/n- to be continued,, there will be new chapters at least once a week! I hope you're all well ((:
