CRICKETS MINGLE AND ECHO around her as she shuffled around in the shed located in her backyard. With only the bright screen of her phone to help her see, she scanned the row of shelves, breathing in the musty scent of dirt and dust.
Not too long ago the power had cut out. From what Mila could tell, her whole street was without power, but it could be very well affecting other homes in Mystic Falls. She had texted her friends to see if it was possibly supernatural related, seeing as there was no nasty storm gracing the sky tonight, and was still awaiting a response.
The eighteen-year-old hummed in delight when she spotted the extra flashlights stored in here for emergencies, grabbing all three of them just in case and holding them close to her body with one arm. She was just about to tuck her phone in her back pocket and turn on one of the flashlights when a chime rang through the air, indicating she received a text message. Unlocking the device, her eyes read the words presented to her on the screen.
Damian🧚🏻♂️ The hospital plan backfired. Liz is ok, but Kai escaped and merged with Luke. Luke is dead and Kai is God knows where. Stay home. We'll deal with this.

After sending a quick text to Caroline about hoping to find another way for her mom to get better, she puts her phone away. Her mind spins at the new information, wondering what it would mean for all them now that Kai has successfully completed the merge — with the wrong sibling, but from she heard, it still worked. She guessed it was because of the fact Kai was still technically twenty-two and so were Liv and Luke.
Mila exited the shed, closing the doors behind her with a simple latch. She thought about how Kai may just leave town now. He had gotten what he clearly so desperately wanted, to fulfill the Gemini Coven twin destiny to compete in the merge, and he had even won. There was nothing keeping him here anymore.
"Hi."
At the sound of an unexpected voice, Mila jumps, dropping the two flashlights tucked under her arm and nearly releasing the one she clasped in her hand. She spins, eyes widening at the sight of Kai, merely a few feet away from her. Her hand immediately swings behind her, fingers finding her phone.
"Don't freak out!" Kai exclaims, hands raised while he slowly approaches her. "I'm not here to hurt you. I swear."
