CHAPTER THIRTEEN
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
REFRESHED AND COMFORTABLE under the heavy blankets, Mila yawns, slowly waking up from a deep sleep. She can sense the heat that had built up over the night underneath the covers and how the temperature in the air had gotten warmer. She actually felt hot now and shifted to tug all the layers off of her.
While her eyes adjust to the room where daylight flooded in, the vampire notices Kai isn't next to her. This makes her focus her hearing, visibly relaxing when she hears him shuffling around downstairs. She decides to get up and check on him, wondering what he was up to.
Since she was too lazy to make a pit stop at her own room, she raided Kai's closet, switching her oversized hoodie for a plain, black t-shirt. She didn't bother with pants, considering it was long enough on her to go halfway down her thighs.
When Mila reached the bottom of the stairs, rubbing one of her eyes to get rid of any crust that formed overnight, she could immediately smell the aroma of food and gravitated towards the kitchen. There the remains of their dinner last night were no where to be found. Instead, the kitchen was cleaned and reorganized, the only dirty thing being the pans in the sink which Kai used to make the bacon and eggs sitting on the table.
Kai, himself, was seated, chewing on a piece of bacon. His face lit up when he saw her, watching her sluggishly walk over and sit down next to him.
"Good morning, princess."
Mila was too content from a peaceful sleep to snap at him for calling her the old nickname, merely resting her chin in her palms and mumbling, "Morning, baby."
"You're flirting back! This is new," he said excitedly, leaning across the table. "Feel like giving me a good morning kiss?"
Mila's opened up her eyes that had weakly slid shut, seeing Kai puckering his full lips and raising his eyebrows at her expectedly. She shakes her a head, a hint of a smile on her face as she puts her whole hand over his face and pushes him back.
"I'm not in that good of a mood."
"Worth a shot." Kai shrugged, shoving a full plate of food in her direction. Mila accepts the gesture and picks up a fork, beginning to eat.
"I could get used to you being my personal chef." She commented after swallowing a mouthful of eggs. In all of his years in isolation, he had learned to be a pretty good cook.
"Well, after you're done eating, I'm going to perform a spell. I tried earlier, but I don't think anything happened. Hopefully channeling you will give me more of a boost. And then I can send a message and one of your friends will respond to our SOS and then I can cook for you for the rest of your very long life."
