It was Rex who picked Janna up in Trinoma. Phoenix didn't reply when she texted him about his change of mind.
Rex also refused to answer her questions. He just drove silently.
Rex entered a gated subdivision in the BGC area. He dropped her off in front of a Mediterranean-designed townhouse, then left. Janna rang the doorbell and the gate slid open.
The first thing Janna saw was the Porsche parked in the front garage. Then Phoenix came out. He was wearing sunglasses and nodded coldly to Janna.
"Good, you're here. You can start."
"Start what?"
"Start washing the car. Andun ang hose, at nasa cabinet na yan ang mga tools at panlinis."
"Ano??"
"May reklamo ka?"
Janna was confused by his coldness.
"E-eto ang gagawin ko?"
"Look, ang usapan either you or ang dalawang ungas mong kasama ang magbabayad sa damage sa kotse. Didn't you message me na ikaw na lang instead of them?"
"Oo... pero..."
"Yun naman pala, eh! So malinaw. Kung sino sa inyo ang nandito, yan ang unang gagawin. Linisin ang kotse ko. So go! Linisin mo na!"
Despite her confusion, Janna gritted her teeth and had no choice but to begin cleaning the car.
"Fixed na pala 'to?" She said.
"Oo, last week pa. Ako na muna ang nagbayad." Then he snapped at her. "Kaya bawiin mo ang inabono ko sa kotse na 'to. Go to work!"
He left her and went back inside the house, leaving her standing alone in the garage.
So Janna worked. Under the sweltering heat of the sun, she washed and wiped and cleaned the damn Porsche until her arms ached and she was tired.
Phoenix came out to inspect and criticize her work, barking orders and leaving her alone again.
Anong problema niya?
By lunch, the Porsche was sparklingly clean. Phoenix came out to inspect it. But he wasn't satisfied and ordered her to clean some more.
Janna's temper snapped. "Ano ba? Malinis na ang kotseng 'to! Bakit mo ba ginagawa 'to?"
"Eto ba ang malinis sa 'yo?" Phoenix pointed to some tiny smudges.
"Fine! Lilinisin ko na!" Janna threw the sponge at the offending smudge.
"Hey! Be careful how you clean my car! If you so much as scratch even a tiny portion of it, I'll add it sa kailangan mong bayaran!" He warned.
Janna cleaned the car again, wondering what the hell happened to Phoenix.
By 2 pm, Janna was finally finished with the car. She was tired, hot and hungry.
Ni hindi man lang ako inalok ng lunch. Kahit tubig man lang!
Janna was drinking water out of the hose when Phoenix came out. He looked at her exhausted appearance and controlled the unexpected compassion that welled up.
He get inside the Porsche. "Get in!" He barked.
He drove out of the village and into the Venice Mall nearby. He led her into one of the open-air restaurants, and ordered some food.
