I couldn't sleep no matter how hard I've tried, sleep just wouldn't come to me. It felt like something was keeping me awake not wanting me to drift off into a perfect slumber. Tossing and turning for hours yet sleep refused to visit me, the sand man forgotten to visit me tonight and I know I'll be grouchy when the boys woke up tomorrow. I turned to look at the dimly lit alarm clock, reading the red numbers as it blinked two-thirty in the morning.
"Just great" I whispered as I looked at a peaceful looking Vincent. His eye lashes kissed his cheek bones as his chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm. His face looked so angelic as the moon light touched his skin. Slowly getting up I quietly walked to the window looking at all the night beauty we miss as we sleep. The forest looked like something from a movie with all the nature's beauty in full effect. The moon was the only source of bright light to shine across the tree tops as specks of light here and there broke through the trees. From a distance you can see the fire flies dance with their yellow glow circling around as they fluttered their wings. Flowers that were hidden in the day were glowing at night and if you concentrate and looked hard enough you can see the blues, pinks and purples of the night fairies. Some people go their whole lives without ever laying an eye on one little fairy. Some who do witness them don't believe and only a handful see them multiple times throughout their lives. My mother used to tell me about her kingdom where the fairies would fly all day and night freely. She said they would help the lost find their way home.
"Krista" I heard a low whisper as I saw the girl in a glowing white dress and with tiny white flowers resting in her hair. She was motioning for me to follow her.
Making sure I was awake I decided to follow her, in some odd way I felt in full control of the night. I've never felt so free and watching the night fairies gave that hope to me. Quietly leaving the small cabin I walked out in the night air. It smelled of fresh rain on a summer day. Forgetting to put shoes on I felt the cold rough ground of the forest floor yet it also felt relaxing as if this is how I once remembered it. Looking around I saw the small girl as she smiled at me and light blue wings appeared from her back she flapped them for a few seconds and she gently lifted off the ground. She was the first fairy I've ever witnessed so close I didn't know she would be so big, as if reading my mind she spun around and her body instantly shrank to the tiny size of a fairy.
"Follow me and I would guide you home princess." I heard the whisper from before.
Staying quite I followed her through the darkness of the forest. Everything looked like a dream and some how it felt like a dream as well, however as my eyes landed on the green forest ground I could see my toes walk on top of the green rich grass. Soon after following my fairy friend, more fairies decided to join lights of the fairies guided me through the deep woods. Following them felt so right I was entranced by their beauty, never in my life have I seen something so magical like this. The sounds of the forest put me on ease as I came to enjoy the night sounds. In the distance you can hear the birds singing, the owls hooting and an occasional howl from a wolf calling to the moon.
We've been walking for awhile and I was starting to panic that we would reach the town, but yet again as if the fairies could read my mind they came to a stop. We were at the bottom of a small cliff, looking at it puzzled the fairy from before gently flew in front of me as she grew in size.
"Princess this is the gate to your kingdom."
"A cliff side?" I asked as I looked up trying to see where it ends.
"No princess the key will open the stone wall. Behind the wall is the hall of realms it's a Forrest clearing. Four doors to different realms all locked away from the world. Your kingdom where all come in peace and serenity, the wolf kingdom, the vampire kingdom and the kingdom of the Elves. Before your kingdom united all four kingdoms to live in perfect harmony there was a nymph who fell in love with a human she would disguise her self as a beautiful oak tree in hopes that the young human will visit back then there was only one kingdom it was where humans and supernatural lived together. One day the boy brought a girl, one he was soon to marry which made the nymph very angry for she was in love with him and promised her parents that the boy would fall in love as well if not they were allowed to close the gates to the kingdom. All of the kingdom grew angry for they wanted to be united with all the world they didn't want to separate. The girl loved the boy so much she needed a plan to save the kingdom so she convinced her parents the rightful rulers that it was a good idea to close the gates but to separate all the supernatural. The rulers were neither king or queen everyone just respected them and treated them as their leaders so even though they were angry they had no choice to obey. The last wish the girl made was to be a leader of this world for she wanted to protect the nature as well as the humans, people today know her as mother nature. The rulers made a key for each kingdom with only one being the rightful key to the gates each ruler picked a random key and was told only in times of need can the gates be opened to all. Years changed to centuries and the gates stood closed until recently where your kingdom decided to try the key they united the kingdoms together once more becoming rightful rulers of all four kingdoms. Soon after opening the gates humans tried to take over, thinking they would be able to kidnap children so they can enter the gates. In the kingdoms there we're smaller kingdoms taking care of different sections of lands. When the humans started to kidnap children they thought it was best to kidnap the only heir to the rightful rulers. That's when your mother went missing and that's when the rightful rulers died. The humans murdered the king and queen however the land didn't die off like legends had it only because the heir was still alive. The other kingdoms were afraid for their people so the sent the next best heir out in search of the rightful princess. They didn't know though that the humans knew witches who had spelled the gates anyone who exits the safety of the hall of realms would loose their memories. Month's passed and the boy didn't return so his parents decided it was best to close the gates in hopes he can remember to give the princess her key." The fairy explained.
"I don't have the key though" I sadly whispered.
"No you do not, but Vincent is the boy who was sent out many years ago in search of you. Help him remember and you can come home." she answered.
