Memories

He had blue eyes like mine and hair similar to me. He could've been my twin brother, that's how much we looked alike. I don't know what came over me but I strangled out "Brother?"

For some strange reason that scared the daylights out of him. He scooted back and pressed himself into the cave wall. As if he wanted to sink into the rock.

"Dia?"

My head pounded trying to remember where I've heard that before. I remember him. My most traumatic experience. One that my mind had tried to erase.

I stepped forward, while he stepped backwards. I stepped closer, until I was mere inches from him. I took one of his hands, putting it in both of mine. I looked at it then examined his eyes once more.

"I remember you." I said

"No. You don't, you don't know me."

I closed my eyes tightly and another flashback came.

I was walking along a beach with someone. Hand in hand. I looked back and saw my mum smiling and waving. She shouted something. I couldn't hear her. But the person holding my hand started laughing. I could tell from him shaking.

He turned toward her and said something back. My mum gave him a thumbs up, we continued to walk.

He picked me up, and I could see his face clearly. He gave me a kiss on the check and I giggled. It was him. The person in the cave.

I opened my eyes.

"You were there. At the beach. Weren't you?" I asked. He looked down.

"She said you wouldn't remember. How's Carter?"

"Hold on. Who's she?"

"Our mother. Ruby Elizabeth Kane."

"Are you saying we're actually related?"

"Yes. Unfortunately for you."

"Why?"

"You know how I turned into this!"

"No I don't and will you please stop yelling?"

His eyes softened. "I'm sorry. Of course you couldn't remember. Give me the crystal and you shall remember."

I backed up a bit, hesitant. How did he know I had the crystal? Was he serious? That was my getaway card. But my curiosity got the better of me, and I handed the crystal to him.

He sat down criss cross patting the place in front of me. Motioning me to sit down. I sat down opposite him.

He closed his eyes. I could tell he was concentrating hard, because beads of sweat we're starting to appear on his forehead.

The crystal that was once clear slowly turned to the color of black. And he opened his eyes, looking at me he said. "You could have injured me and run away."

"Yes, but I want to know if you're telling the truth. If you're really my brother."

"Heh."

"How old are you? What's your name? When's your birthday? What's your favourite color?"

"Well, you're 15?" I nodded. "Which means I'm 22. My name is, uhh. My name is..." I saw panic enter his eyes, while he quickly stood up. "I don't remember my name. It's getting worse!" He turned his back to me.

"Hold on! What's getting worse?"

"I sacrificed myself to be Apophis's host. I gave him complete access to my body, and my mind. Sometimes we disagree, and I pay the price."

"What price?"

"Sometimes I can't control my body! Like when I almost ended the gods. That was because Apophis and I had a disagreement. Usually when we fight I go on a rampage and kill some demons, but this time, he threatened to take away my memories of you. I couldn't let that happen. He said that my emotions we're getting in the way."

I breathed deeply. "Are you okay though? Does it ever hurt losing control?"

"It always hurts," he said bitterly. "That's the point." His body shuddered violently. "You must leave now, the pain is starting to come."

"No way! I will stay with you."

"I might hurt you." He paced around the chamber.

I looked at him not knowing what to do. "Look me in the eyes," he slowly looked up. "Why did you do this to yourself?"

"It is my punishment!" He looked slightly different, his hair was turning a darker color of caramel. Blackish brown. "For trying to kill him."

"Trying to kill who?"

"Your kindergarten boyfriend's older brother."
