Annabeth's mouth hung open when we entered the first Nome. She started talking about the architecture, asking how long something took to create, taking plenty of notes. She wandered over to the venders and asked them question after question.
"Come on Annabeth. We gotta find Amos. He's most likely in here." I gestured toward the large set of doors. We entered and walked down the long hall. "Stay on the carpet, and don't look at the pictures on the sides." She raised a questioning eyebrow before I added. "My sister did that once and almost died." Her mouth hung open.
"What?"
"Yeah. She's lucky it didn't melt her brain."
"That's very concerning."
"Yeah, but she's too stubborn to die." I grimaced. "Let's just hope she's still as stubborn as ever."
After a long walk through the hall we reached the very end where the throne was. My uncle Amos sat on the stair below it. On his shoulder was a shimmering leopard print, hieroglyphs filtered through the air. "Uncle Amos."
"My King."
Annabeth's head whipped around so fast her hair came out of her ponytail. "What?! Since when were you anointed King? Er, Pharaoh."
"Right after the war with Apophis."
"Apophis as in giant snake of Chaos?"
"Yep. Now, on to business." I faced my uncle. "I need your ring."
"Excuse me?"
"You said that when the time was right the Owl would retrieve it with the Falcon."
"Did I?" He mused, stroking his goatee. "I suppose I did. Very well then." He took the ring off of his finger and passed it over to me. "Make good use of it. It is the original."
"Thanks."
"But why do you need it?"
"Sadie's gone missing in the Duat."
