Jungeun was dragged across the room—shoes were taken off and thrown back at the door, courtesy of Jiwoo—before being pushed down on her bed. And then her small, single bed was crowded with three, fully grown college students. Jungeun stared back at the eager faces of her idiotic friend and cousin.
"Tell us everything, and you better not leave any details out!" Yaebin ordered.
Jungeun looked back and forth between the two girls. They definitely weren't going to back down without a fight, that's for sure. But nothing happened really. Yet, they weren't going to take that for an answer.
"Nothing ha—"
"She's about to lie. I know it." Yaebin narrowed her eyes.
"I'm not!"
"She's getting defensive! She's lying! Tell us, is she cute, pretty, or hot?"
Well, Jinsol was all of the above. Jungeun softly stuttered, causing the two to jump back on her like wolves on a deer.
"How big are her muscles? Like disgusting huge or tiny little bumps?" Yaebin demonstrated her examples with her own arm.
"Does she smell pretty? The best girls are the ones who smell like flowers." Jiwoo nodded knowingly.
"Who cares if she smells like flowers? She's a boxer, so she smells like sweat. Did she smell sweaty, Jungeun? Ooh, what if she had just gotten back from a workout?"
Yaebin threw her head back dramatically and rested her hand on her forehead.
"No, she didn't smell sweaty!" Jungeun grimaced. "She smelled...I dunno, normal?"
Yaebin scoffed and rolled her eyes. "'Normal.' Yeah, right. What did you two do? Bench presses?"
"No, we just—"
"Did you kiss?" Jiwoo gasped, hiding her huge grin behind her fists.
And cue Jungeun's red face. "What? No! It wasn't like that—"
"Oh you know they had a full-blown make-out session," Yaebin waggled her eyebrows while Jiwoo squealed.
Jungeun hates them. So much. Especially Yaebin. Why, why was she cursed to hang around someone as bold and headstrong as Kang Yaebin? And why, why does Jiwoo like her enough to not want to kick her out? Life would be so much easier if Jiwoo practically despised Yaebin enough to ban her from the whole floor of rooms. Yet, due to their extroverted natures, they were fond of each other and liked to team up against poor little Jungeun, who did nothing wrong. So she did what a rational person would do.
She kicked her cousin off the bed.
Jiwoo gasped before she started laughing hysterically at Yaebin's scandalized expression.
"You're literally the worst," Yaebin grunted.
"You deserved it. So, what happened at band tryouts?"
And just like that, the conversation switched. She was off the hook for now, but not for long because the two will continue to pester her for information until she broke down and gave them what they asked for. She'll tell them the truth, and once they realize she's telling them the same exact thing each time they ask, they'll eventually let her be.
Yaebin climbed back on the bed. "She said I was the worst drummer that she had ever seen."
"I could've told you that," Jungeun snorted while Jiwoo snickered in her palm.
Yaebin then held up her phone, which turned on to reveal that her battery was at a whopping 9%. "Guess who got her number," she sang.
"You did not."
"I did to. She must like bad drummers."
"Or short idiots."
"You and I are literally the same height."
Jungeun sighed. "If only I were taller."
"Why? So you can kiss your tall, boxer girlfriend?"
She was then assaulted with a pillow.
Yaebin threw the pillow back at her cousin. "You know, this all wouldn't have happened if you had just left my shampoo at my dorm room. So you should blame yourself for being roasted."
"Roasted? The most I feel is as if I'm being left in the microwave too long."
Yaebin blinked, unimpressed. "That was lame."
"You're lame."
"Oh, hold on while I pretend to be hurt at that comeback." Yaebin screwed up her face in mock pain and hissed.
The same pillow re-assaulted her.
It was hot under the bright lights beating down on Jinsol as she sat in her corner of the ring. The yelling all around her made her nearly deaf to the advice her coach was giving her as she gulped down her water. Her muscles were tired, her head was beginning to hurt, and she really wanted to go home. But she had one more fight. One more to go. And then she could rest. The opponent wasn't difficult in the slightest. She just really needed to get some sleep after the day she had.
Her mind was on Jungeun while her coach was telling her the opponent's weak points, as if she didn't find them out herself. She wondered if Jungeun was sleeping at her dorm. Or maybe she was eating with her cousin or roommate. Or maybe them together. Was Jungeun close to her roommate like her and Sooyoung? Did her roommate and cousin know about Jinsol?
Jinsol shook her head, causing her braids to lightly smack her sharp jaw. It didn't matter if Jungeun told them about her. She just hoped she didn't scare Jungeun away, despite the promises to text being proof enough for her. But Jungeun might've said that just to not make her feel bad.
The bell dinged and she was up, handing her water bottle to her manager and having the towel around her shoulder's taken off by her coach. She replaced her mouth guard and slipped her gloves back on (she hated how cramped they felt on her hands) before meeting her opponent in the middle of the ring. The girl looked rough. Just a couple of more hits and she would be out like a light.
Alright, Jinsol. Focus. No more thinking about Jungeun.
Jinsol held her fists up, exterior calm as the girl looked both angry and afraid.
The referee signaled the round began, and Jinsol felt her mind shut down as she made her first punch, body on autopilot through the entire round.
It was only a couple hours later, after celebratory drinks with friends and her staff, that she lied in bed and let her tired brain imagine Jungeun was lying beside her for a few seconds before she dozed off.
