"It has been about two weeks since the last murder, do you think the murderer is backing off?" Connor asks me and Caleb as we pedal in sync through downtown Bridgeport. It's fairly early in the morning for most people to be out on a Saturday - about 9:30ish -, especially in a small town, so therefore we're some of the only people around.

"I don't know... Two weeks isn't all that much time. I feel like it's too early to tell." I respond.

"Have the local police even done anything? Do they even care? After one of their people died, it seems like they stopped even trying to investigate." Caleb buds in.

"We're the ones who've done investigating so far... Looking into who's been bullied by the two. Why aren't they looking into any of that?"

"I don't know," I shrug.

We continue to pedal down the streets until we stop at the park. The same park we questioned Wes at, to be specific. The park also has some picnic benches in some shade and a small playground. We head over to the picnic benches and leave our bikes on the grass next to the bench. I sit next to Caleb and Connor sits across from us.

"And, boom," Connor says as he reaches into his bag. He pulls out a bag filled with cookies, then gets more bags from his backpack. "Enjoy, fellas. I made them just for us."

"Aww, thanks Connor," I grin as I open up the bag of cookies. I take one from the bag and immediately bite into it, the flavorful gingersnap cookie filling my tastebuds. Caleb follows my actions and soon we're both eating the cookies.

"No problem! Anything for you guys."

"Oh, hey, by the way," I meet Connor's eyes. "I started reading the Stephen King you gave me, it's pretty good so far."

Caleb glances to me, an expression I can't make out reaching his eyes until he glances away.

"Oh, hey, thank you! I'm glad you're liking it!" Connor gives me a wide dimpled smile, then shoves a cookie into his mouth.

"So guys," Caleb speaks up, changing the subject. We both look at him as he begins. "I'm still really bothered by the fact the police aren't doing anything."

"Me too," I nod. "It's really weird, don't you think? They're supposed to be protecting people. Why aren't they anymore? I haven't heard even a warning to be careful since that officer died."

"Do you think they're hiding something?" Connor asks.

"What? Nah... I don't know..." Caleb shrugs.

"We should do something bold as a way of showing them they need to take this and their jobs seriously," I suggest.

"Like what? I don't want to get in trouble with the law."

"Or look suspicious," Connor adds.

"I don't know... Just... Something, y'know?"

We sit in silence for a few seconds, the only sounds being the crunching of cookies whenever any of us take a bite.

Finally, Caleb suggests an idea. "What if we head to the police station nearby and talk to someone of authority about it? Talk about how we're scared and such and it doesn't appear that they're doing anything?"

"That's... Not that bad of an idea," I bite into another cookie. "What do you think, Con?"

He looks between the two of us, weighing his options. "That doesn't seem that bad. Doesn't sound dangerous."

"So it's a deal?" Caleb asks.

"Sure. Let's finish up here, then head to the station," I agree.
