Buckle in for this chapter.
It's... Intense ;)
It's another day.
I wake up around ten in the morning and eat breakfast straight away. In about two and a half hours I have to be at Connor's. I head to my room after eating and settle on reading for the next couple of hours.
When there's only half an hour left until I have to be there, I put my book down- a Stephen King- and begin to get dressed. Today, I go with shorts and a light sweatshirt, a pretty good outfit to match the warmish weather. I put my sneakers on and slide my phone into my pocket.
"Mom, Dad, I'm heading out to see Connor!" I yell, walking down to the front door.
"Alright, be back before dinner!" Dad yells in response.
"Deal, see yah!" With that, I leave the house and get on my bike to start my adventure.
When I get there, Connor is outside. Renae's car is gone and the siblings are nowhere in sight. "Hey, Con!" I wave. He looks up from his book and smiles at me.
"Hey! My mom and siblings are gone, so it's just us. I made lunch for us, come on," he leads me inside the house and to the table. Two spots at the table are nicely set with a plate, silverware, and a cup.
"Oh, wow, this is really nice of you," I sit down at one of the spots as he stands at the same place in the kitchen.
"Anything for you," Connor smiles, walking into the other room. I smile back and wait patiently for him to bring dinner. After a few minutes, he comes back into the room with a mysterious dish. "Enchiladas. I made them myself."
"Woah, thank you! I love enchiladas," I grin at him. He smiles admiringly at me as I grab one from the pan, then he puts one on the pan for himself. We begin to eat and talk a bit about random stuff. The enchiladas are perfect, every bite is savory and full of flavor, and I guess it really does make sense... He's always been good at cooking and baking.
"I hope you liked it," he says once we're both done eating. "I tried a new recipe."
"It was amazing," I gush. "One of the best meals I've had in awhile."
"Aww, I'm glad," Connor smiles. "I'd hate to ask you to clean up... But could you help me? We just have to put these dishes in the dishwasher. I have a surprise for you as well."
"Oh, of course! No problem," I stand up and grab my dishes. He follows me as we head to the dishwasher and together load it up.
"So uh, I have something to ask you, but first I want to give you something."
"Oh, sure, what is it?"
"Here, wait on the couch, I'll be right back," Connor tells me, walking away to what I presume is his room. I sit on the couch and wait there for him to return. He comes back into the room with a small box and sits down next to me. "So uh, here." I take the box and open it up to see a ring. The ring has a small ruby on it and a heart engraved on the band.
"It's beautiful, Connor," I smile at him after slipping it onto my ring finger.
"So uh, I have something to tell you..."
"Yeah? Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, uh, just..." he exhales a little. "I really like you and have for a little while. You're one of the first people who have ever shown any interest in me and I can't thank you enough... And uh, well... I want to be more than friends with you."
"Connor, I-" I trail off, taken aback by his confession. Before I can utter another word, a loud thump grabs our attention. "What was that!?"
"Stay here, I'll check it out."
