“They stick you with those names, those labels- ‘rebel’ or whatever; whatever they like to use. Because they need a label; they need a name. They need to put the price tag on the back.” –Johnny Depp
I can see tiny buildings below me. I can see ant sized people walking around, some looking at the helicopter once in a while. I duck and hide my face- afraid someone might recognize me. I laugh at the mere thought. I’m too far up for anyone to see my face clearly. I look at Lucy and see she’s talking with Jo. I clear my throat and they both turn to me.
“Where are we going?” I ask.
Jo smirks and says over his shoulder, “You’ll see, darling.”
I look at Lucy for more information but her answer is equally disappointing as well- “We’re going to a safe camp.”
I ask Lucy another question, “How did you even know the way to escape?”
Lucy gives me a knowing smile and say, “Oh, I’ve known a long time but I wanted to make you come with me so I had to wait for you to trust me and then ask.”
I shake my head and tell her, “You could have asked me the first time we met and I would have said yes in a heart beat.”
I look out to the scenery again and it’s now full of trees and sloping landscapes. I sigh in happiness and thought, so this is what freedom felt like. I could finally breathe and act more freely now knowing no doctor or guard will be always looking at me. Content and happy, I lean back and close my eyes. I can finally sleep freely.
I wake up, startled and confused by the unfamiliar surroundings. I am now sitting up right on a bed and notice I am in a small room with no windows but there is a clock above me and a small closet with an attached mirror. There is also a closed door in front of me, and my curiosity peaks.
I stand up and take slow step towards the door but it opens with a bang. Lucy steps in the room with a wide grin.
I furrow my eyebrows and say, “Where am I?”
Lucy shakes her head and drags me out of the room and basically out of the building I slept in. She pushes me forward and I stumble a little. Looking back at her, Lucy opens her arms wide and says, “Welcome to Genesis 1!”
I look around us and see people moving around. They look as if they are in a hurry. I turn back to Lucy and ask, “What is Genesis 1?”
She grabs my shoulders and tells me with all seriousness, “It’s a safe camp,” she pauses and whispers to my ear, “For rebels.”
I gasp in shock and stutter nervously, “H-how d-do you kn-know about this c-camp?”
She shuffles her feet a bit and looks at me with uncertainty and says something I didn’t quite believe at first, “I kind of help run it.”
My eyes widen and I look at her from head to toe and can’t just imagine, fun, bubbly, Lucy- a rebel leader.
“With the help of Lucas of course,” She adds.
I nod my head and try to believe in the idea of Lucy a rebel leader. But I was right after all. She is a leader, though a rebel at that but a leader still. I tell her to tell me all about the camp and her role while she gives me a tour around the camp.
“First, you should know this camp are for the rebels against Armageddon. We’re mainly against Obadiah Wilson and his “ways”. We know what’s he’s done and we want everyone to know that the man they worship the very ground he steps on, isn’t the man they think he is.
“Second, the camp consists of three buildings- the HQ or Head Quarters, Training Grounds and the Executive Building. The HQ is the main building where all the people in this camp sleep, eat, shower, socialize or anything really, well, except for training.
“But keep in mind that our buildings don’t go up but instead goes deeper so that Armageddon won’t notice us. The second building is the Training Grounds. Even thought it’s technically not in the grounds but in a building but it’s still where all our training will be held.
“The third building is the smallest one. It’s where the camp leaders, i.e. Lucas, others, and me, meet once a month to talk about plans, safety and progress.”
Lucy finishes of her long description of the camp and adds, “Yeah, so that’s about it. Any questions?”
“Yeah. How’d you become a leader- or one of the leaders at least?”
Lucy shrugs. “We just are. We started as a small group against Armageddon. And soon after, a lot of people started joining in. Lucas and I were chosen as leaders ‘cause we were the strongest one. We named ourselves Genesis 1 because we will be the beginning of the downfall of Armageddon.”
Throughout her speech, I become more and more in terms with her being a leader, a strong one at that.
“But why are you the leader?”
Lucy laughs and brushes of invisible dust on her shoulder. “I’m just stronger than the rest. Well, except for Lucas.”
And now, I can fully accept that Lucy is well enough to be a leader.
Lucy and I are now in the Training Grounds.
“What are we doing here?” I ask her.
“We’re going to see Lucas.”
