I know everything happens for a reason but how I wish I just knew what the reason is.
I am in a camp assembly.
I look beside me and I see a huge gap between the older members of Genesis 1 and I. I mask my hurt feelings and put on a nonchalant look. I hear a throat clearing in front of me. I look up and see Lucas, the camp leader, and behind him are Lucy and a handsome but brooding man. Lucy looks excited and the man now sports a smile, which looks much better on him.
“Good morning, everyone!” Lucas greets everyone in the camp.
Replies and shouts answer his greeting but I notice only I am staying quiet. I see Lucy step forward and smile widely.
“Today’s assembly is different. I will be introducing a newly official member of our camp whom I believe will help us immensely.”
Now, she is looking directly at me. “Help me welcome, Beatrice Cunning.” I stand up and nod a little. Only some clap with Lucy. I sit down right after. I’m sure people know me already, and I mean, not the good way. They think I’m crazy and they’re not far from the truth.
The mystery man is now speaking. “As Lucy has said, this assembly is different. Now,” he says as he looks at me, “Beatrice here thinks that this is an ordinary rebel camp fighting against Armageddon but it’s not.”
I can hear the people around me agreeing and are now looking at me with interest, like they knew something big. Lucas continues for the mystery man.
“Beatrice, I know you’ve noticed something weird in this camp.”
It’s true. I did notice but it’s all just hallucinations, right? I nod at Lucas and he continues.
“We call ourselves Transcendent.” I look at him confused. “We are people who have powers.”
I scoff. I maybe a Schizophrenic but that is just not possible. The crowd around me is now forgotten. I can see Lucy telling Lucas something, which he nods, agreeing with her.
It’s impossible. It all happened so fast and I still can’t wrap my head around it. Lucy steps forward and raises her hand. Fireballs appeared from mid air and I notice it came from her hands. I stumble back, gasping.
I‘m hallucinating, I mutter to myself again and again.
Lucy jumps down the stage and makes her way to but I step back. Hurt flashes within her eyes but quickly masks it.
“Bea, this is not a hallucination.” I hear her say.
I shake my head and refuse to her reasons but despite everything, I manage to say to her. “Prove it.”
I see Lucy smile a little and mutter, “Freedom is only a metaphor.”
