"What is your favorite thing in the world?" Calum asked Melody looking at the ceiling.
"Rainy days" she answered simply.
Calum sat up.
"Why is that?" He asked curiously.
"They show you that no matter how gray it is, what's coming after it is beautiful."
"Huh, I never thought about it that way."
*Nine years before*
Melody was in ponytails running around the kitchen. That day her mother's friend was coming over for dinner and was bringing her son who was the same age.
"Mom, mom, moooom" Melody tugged at her mother's dress.
"What is it , honey? " She was growing unpatient.
"Where are they?" She was really excited because a boy her age was coming over. She isn't around boys much. She has a brother but is two years older and never spends time with her.
The doorbell rang and Melody followed closely behind her mother. She waited for Marissa, Melody's mother, to open the door.
"Well, if it is Joy Hood." She reached out and gave the woman a hug. She was very good looking and looked like she was in her mid- thirties. "Please, come in. This is my daughter, Melody. Melody say hi to Joy."
She hid behind her mother. "Excuse her, she's not used to seeing you." She said apologetically.
"Cal, come meet Marissa and her daughter, Melody. They are very nice people." Moments later a little boy appeared, black hair covered his brown eyes.
"Calum, this is my friend, Marissa, and her daughter, Melody. Melody is your age and I think you will be very good friends." She smiled looking down at Calum.
"Hi, I'm Calum." He gave Melody a toothy grin. Melody came from behind her mother and smiled at the boy in front of her.
She had a feeeling they were going to be very good friends.

Three hours later...
Calum and Melody were watching tv and all of the sudden Calum talks.
"Melody?" They looked at each other. "Can you promise me that we will be friends for a long time?"
Melody was smiling like a Cheshire cat. "Of course, Cal." They hugged.
