*Two days after*
Calum
I woke up by the sound of my alarm. "Ughh," I turned it off and grabbed my phone from the bedside table. May 15th 5:15 am it read. Today is Melody's 17th birthday and the last day of being juniors before summer vacation starts.
I jumped off my bed and ran to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and grabbed a pair of jeans that were piled on the floor. I slipped on my black t-shirt, hoodie and beanie, grabbed my converse and put them on as fast as I could. I slung my backpack in my left arm, grabbed my phone and headed out for the door.
I locked the house and headed to her house, that was only five houses right from mine. I moved here to L.A about ten years ago because of my mother's job. That's how I met Melody.
It was 5:30 am already. I know for a fact that Melody sets her alarm for 6am. I silently climbed the tree that I have become so familiar too for the past five years. It leads straight into her bedroom window. I opened it slowly. Trying not to make any noise, I climb in. I close it and drop my backpack by the door.
She looks so vurnerable while sleeping. I inhaled deeply before screaming at the top of my lungs. "MELODYY, WAKE UP!!! YOU'RE 17." I pounced on her and started jumping in her bed.
"Ahhh!" She fell down from her bed. Her face was priceless. "CALUM THOMAS HOOD, you almost gave me a heart attack." She said holding dramatically her chest. She got up from the floor and rubbed her bum. I stifled a laugh
"Aww, I'm sorry boo" I held my arms out for her to hug me. " It's not everyday my best-friend is turning 17." I kissed her on the top of her head.
"What time is it?" She yawned. I widened my eyes. "Uhh, time for you to get up and get ready for our last day in school." Phew, good one Calum.
"Okay," She got up and walked to her closet. "Oh, Melody, remember you're driving! So if you want to get there before we're tardy again, you better shower fast." I swear she drives like my grandmother, and believe me , that is very slow.
"Relax, we have not one, but two reasons to be late today." she sid while looking through her closet. "Oh yeah? And these two reasons are...?" I throw myself at her big bed.
She poked her head out the closet door. "One, it's Queen Fabulous', AKA me,birthday. Two, It's the last day of school, so who cares if we're late."

At last, school is over!
Melody was saying her goodbyes to her friends while I said mine to my buddies.
"Dude, you've got to tap that by the end of summer." Michael said, referring to Melody.
"Eww, no, she's my best-friend." I said simply.
"If you don't tap that, I will." Michael said.
"Dude, really? You had to go there?" I asked Michael.
" Come on, Cal, you have to. Melody is hot and single..." Ashton elbowed me wiggling his eyebrows.
"Calum, she's like perfect. Plus, everyone in school thinks that you're a couple. You look cute together." Luke shrugged.
"Just drop it,here she comes." I told them.
Melody stood beside me, greeting the guys. They muttered their hi's. Then she turned to me. "Cal, are you ready to leave?" She asked with my car keys in her hand. "Yeah, let's go. Bye guys!" I waved and left with her.
We got in my car and Melody put the key in the ignition and the car roars to life. She turned the radio on and Teenage Dream by Katy Perry was playing. "OMG! This is my favorite song, Cal, please sing it for me. " she pleaded. "Anything for the birthday girl." I smiled at her.
"I think you're pretty, without any make up on.
I think you're funny, when you tell the punchline wrong.
I know you got me so I let my walls come down, doown.
Before you met me, I was a wreak but things were kinda heavy" Melody was smiling like crazy, she loves when I sing, especially for her.
Melody soon after joined me singing. She drove out of school property and took the highway 1. It's faster for us to get to the beach. It's tradition, every year after school ends, we go to the beach.
"We drove to Cali, and got drunk on the beach
Got a motel and built a fort out of sheets
I finally got you my missing puzzle piece
I'm complete" We both sang at the top of our lungs.
Soon after, the song ended and we arrived at the beach. It was completely packed.
" Mel, go look for seats while I rent a Surfboard and some towels." I instructed her. She nodded and wandered off.
I called Ashton's number, I really hope this works. He answered by the third ring " 'Sup, Cal?"
"Ash , I need the boys and you to come to Melody's ASAP, we are pulling an all-nighter. Oh, and bring Melody's friends and some booze. Her parents are out of town on a business trip and we are making her a surprise party." I told him quickly.
"Sure thing, bro. But tell me something, are you with her now?"He asked and I knew he will tell me the same thing he told me at school. "Of course, so be quick and spread the word. We'll be there al 9pm so you better have everything in order 'till I get there with her. I left the back door unlocked so you can get in easily."
"Okay, we'll make it work, just keep her entertained 'till 9, mmkay?" I heard shuffling in the background.
"Yeah, sure, thanks Ash." and with that I ended the call.
Tonight's going to be fun.

It was currently 8:45 p.m. and Melody wouldn't quit bugging me that she wanted to go home.
"You have to dry off first, you're not getting all wet and full of sand in my car." I told her looking at her up and down.
"Hmph, fine." she sat in the hood of my car.
I checked my phone and the clock said it was 8:50. Time to get going.
"Okay, you're dry enough. Lets go." I climbed in the passenger's seat.
"Yay!" She hoped out from the hood and climbed in.
The car ride was silent, the only sounds that you could hear were the sound of the radio and the occasional honking of cars.
When we were about two blocks from Mel's house I texted Ashton. "We're two blocks away, get ready."
We got to her house and she parked the car in the driveway before turning it off and climbing out. I was behind her, she was fumbling with the keys to the front door.
I opened the door for her and she turned on the light.
"Surprise!" People appeared from nowhere, congratulating her. She was still in shock when Ashton and the guys came to congratulate her. "Thank you guys!" She hugged the three of them and Ashton pulled back. "Naww, it was Calum's idea to make you a surprise party."
She turned to me, "Was this all your idea?" She looked like she was going to cry, and I didn't know if that was good or bad.
"You deserve it." I shrugged. She gave me a bone-crushing hug. "Thank you, thank you soo much!" Then she kissed my cheek.
"Well, let's get this party started!" Michael shouted and everybody cheered. I'm glad I made Melody happy, even though I know tomorrow the cleaning will be my responsibility. But, who cares?
