- Oh hey Luka! What are you doing here?

Luka
11: 34 AM—

The last three days have been peaceful so far. He got to relax a bit even if the new job came with new responsibilities. But it never got too overwhelming for him, as he loved to be there. There was something in the atmosphere at that coffee shop that eased his mind and made him feel at home. He never felt rushed or pressured, instead, he would enjoy seeing more people walk in and hum the sweet smell of coffee as they were greeted by the calm hubbub that enveloped the place and the welcoming warm smile that stretched his face. He enjoyed watching people sipping calmly the beverage they chose as they talked and laughed with the people sitting with them at a table they chose, as creepy and weird that might sound. When he would get bored, he would try to memorize the names the customers gave him to write on their cup and then bid them farewell when they would leave saying " Goodbye Anna" or "Have a safe trip back home Alice!". Of course there were small things that bugged him or tasks he didn't quite enjoy like whipping the tables clean and having to take care of annoying customers, but nothing that's impossible to overcome.

Maude helped him get around too as she would assist him at every step he took the first few days and then when she felt like he could handle himself and that she could trust him enough, she gave him a little bit more freedom and space. He has grown used to the people that came a lot and even befriended some.

A sight left his parted lips as he finally got to take a breath. He has been running around the counter making all sorts of beverages and writing names with the black marker while Maude was in the back, searching for the ingredients that ran out. Finally, the activity in the small room lowered as some took their plastic cups and went back to their lives by passing the glass door throwing a polite "Thank you", while others settled on a table taking part of the chit chat that animated the coffee shop.

-Want a coffee?

He turned around and looked at her with eyes as big as a tennis ball - not literally thought. Confusion took over his facial features as he tried to understand what the small brunette was referring to. Surely she wasn't asking him to drink a coffee without paying.

-Are we allowed to just take whatever we want?

Maude snickered as she placed a hand on top of her mouth to cover it, amused by her coworker's ignorance.

-Of course silly! Choose one and I'll make it to you.

He smiled warmly, he was thankful that she is taking care of him. It hasn't even been a week and she already considered and treated him like her own brother. She told him that when she was a little girl she would always dream to have someone around to play with and she enjoyed her cousin's company. And so this is how she wasted five years of her life trying to persuade her parents into making her a little brother. Eventually she gave up realizing that she wasn't going to succeed in her mission.

-That's fine! Plus, it's your break now so you should be resting. I'll take care of the customers and make you something while you go to the back.

She inhaled, ready to complains and fire back when she was cut by a smiling Luka, mischief in his eyes.

- What would you like?

Knowing she wasn't going to hear the end of it, she gave up and asked for a macchiato, not without glancing at him with an annoyed look, as he snickered at her, proud of his victory.
