The Camp Counsellor

Chapter 4

Madelaine's POV:

I woke up with a massive headache. I got out of bed and walked out of the cabin. I went down the stairs and walked to the nurses office.

"Hey Ashleigh?" I whispered walking into her room. She was still asleep so I walked over and sat on the edge of her bed. "Ashleigh," I whispered again putting my hand on her shoulder. Ashleigh rolled over and opened her eyes.

"Oh Madelaine hi. What can I do for you?" She asked sitting up.

"I woke up with a massive headache I was wondering if I could get some Advil?" I asked. She got up and walked to the medicine cabinet. She pulled out a prescription bottle and handed me a pill.

"This is a little stronger than Advil. Have you had trouble sleeping?" She asked. I nodded my head and she grabbed me a glass of water. "Then this will help you sleep," She added. I took the pill and placed it in my mouth. Then I took a sip of water and swallowed.

"You can lie down in here or in another room. You should get some more sleep and I'll wake you up before breakfast," Ashleigh suggested.

"I think I'm gonna go in another room thanks though. I wouldn't want to keep you awake." I said. Ashleigh smiled and I followed her into another room. She grabbed some blankets and a pillow.

"Here you go I'll be back soon," Ashleigh said. I laid down and closed my eyes. I started thinking about Vanessa. What was I doing with her? She's a counsellor not a camper. She could loose her job and I could get sent home. I dont know what I want yet but I know until I figure it out I need to distance myself.

"Mads," I heard someone whisper. I opened my eyes and looked over at the door. "Mads come on you need to wake up," Ashleigh said. She came over to me and sat down on the bed.

"How's your head?" She asked me.

"A lot better thank you," I answered her. She smiled at me and stood up. I pulled the covers off of me and got up. I walked out of the room and down the stairs.

"Hey if your headache comes back please come back to see me," Ashleigh said. I smiled and nodded walking back to the cabin. I slowly opened the door.

"WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN," Vanessa yelled. I furrowed my brows annoyed and pushed past her.

"I was in the nurses office because I had a headache," I explained. I know the rules but still I didn't want to wake her. "I didn't think it would be a big deal," I added. Vanessa walked over to me and put her hand on my back.

"I was worried about you. I woke up when you left and was looking for you for hours. Next time please wake me and I'll go with you," Vanessa said. I didn't say anything and got ready for breakfast.

"Hey you okay?" She asked. I looked and her and nodded.

"Yeah," I answered. I grabbed her bucket hat and threw it on my head. I walked out of the room, purposely hitting her shoulder.

Once we got to breakfast I sat down at one end of the table. Vanessa came down and sat next to me moving so that our legs were touching. After everyone was settled I stood up.

"I'm gonna go get the food," I said. I walked to the kitchen and grabbed the breakfast and a coffee pot. I went back for mugs and cream and then sat down on the other side of the table. Vanessa shot me a confused look. I looked at her but then looked away like nothing happened. I didn't want to engage with her.

After breakfast I walked back to the cabin to get ready for electives. I was going sailing with Travis today.

"So what are you guys doing for your electives?" Cami asked. All the girls answered and then she looked at me. "What about you Madelaine what are you doing?" She asked me. I paused not quite sure if I should tell them.
