Prologue

    "Betty, " Sweetpea said looking over at her.
    "Yeah, Sweets?"
    "I...I'm in love with Veronica."
    Betty sat up on the couch, staring at him in shock. "What?"
    "I'm sorry. I swear nothing happened between Veronica and I. I would never do that to you. I still want to be friends, but I wanted to ask you if I could ask her out."
    "Oh, uh...sure. I guess. I'm going to, go to...Cheryls."
    "Betty, wait." Sweet pea said as Betty scrambled to get her things from their bedroom.
    Tears sparkled in his eyes as Betty tried not to cry. She dialled Cheryls number, pushing past Sweetpea.
    "Cher. I need to come to stay with you for a while. Okay, thank you. Love you, bye." Betty shoved her phone in her bag rushing to get out of the house.
    "Betty," Sweetpea said, grabbing her shoulders.
    He pulled her into his chest as she sobbed. "Ronnie? Really? My best friend."
    "I'm sorry, Betty. It just happened. I never intended to hurt you."
    "But you did." She cried into his chest.
    "I'm sorry." He said as a tear slid down his cheek and landed in her hair.
    "I just...I didn't expect this. That's all."
    "Friends?"
    "I need some time before I can be friends again."
    Sweet pea nodded, pulling away. A car horn blared in front of the house and Betty walked out the front door and hopped into Cheryls red truck.
