It was your last day at the training camp, and it was bittersweet. Although the training was absolutely dreadful, and the food was of low supply, the memories you created and the lifelong friends you made bonds with were priceless. In light of the final day, Commander Shadis decided that it would be a day off, to pack up and have some last few moments with your peers before you jumped into the real world. The sad reality of it was that after tomorrow, no one's lives were guaranteed. You were entering the dragon's den.
The dark was slowly creeping upon the camp, and the day was nearing its end. You were having a casual conversation with Ymir and Krista in your cabin, when Jean walked through the door.
"Can I steal [Y/N]?" He asked the girls.
"Don't bring her back." Ymir teased, giving Jean her blessing.
You stood up and walked out the door with Jean. He took your hand and locked his fingers between yours.
"Where are you taking me?" You chuckled.
"Don't you see the sunset? We're just taking a walk and admiring it." Jean stated.
You didn't believe Jean's statement, because you knew how much of a hopeless romantic he was. There was surely something more than that, but you shook it off and played along with Jean's scheme.
He was right about the sunset, though. The sky was the most vibrant colour of orange, and towards the horizon, graded into a hot pink. The sun was gone, meaning it would be dark in about a half hour.
"Guess what?" Jean said.
"What?" You repeated him.
"I found fireworks." He stated.
Shocked, you let out an uneasy smile. "What? Where did you find fireworks?"
"Remember when I got in trouble a week or two ago for faking the conditioning?" Jean asked.
"Yea, he made you clean out an old barn." You replied. A light switch turned on in your brain and you sighed. "Ohh."
"I saved them for tonight. We're going to light 'em up on the field. Me, you, Marco, Connie and Sasha." Jean explained, smiling.
"That sounds like fun, but won't we get in trouble?" You asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Shadis no longer has authority over us. We're grads tomorrow, and he doesn't have time to give us a punishment." Jean explained. "And on top of that, Marco got us permission."
At this point, Jean was already walking you towards the training field, where you saw Connie, Marco and Sasha in the distance with a pile of explosives set up around them.
"This is so sweet of you." You muttered, wrapping your other arm around Jean's.
"Hey! We figured it out!" Connie shouted, waving at you and Jean.
Jean smiled and broke into a sprint, pulling you with him.
"Let's see if it works." Marco said.
He propped one of the fireworks onto a makeshift stand, and Sasha lit a match, which then lit the fuse. As the fire quickly reached the firework, the five of you backed away from it and watched as it shot into the sky and exploded into thousands of colourful lights.
"So cool!" Sasha exclaimed, jumping with excitement.
"Let me try it." You said, taking the box of matches from Sasha.
Jean chose a larger firework and propped it onto the pyramid of sticks Marco created to help launch them. You lit the match and watched the flares in awe, and you directed it to the fuse. The fuse instantly lit up, startling you. Jean took your hand and pulled you away from it quickly, wrapping his arms around you. You let out a small, surprised squeal.
Moments later, the firework lit up the sky, colouring it in orange sparks.
As the night got darker, you indulged in a night of firing explosives into the air, and watching them in awe as they lit up the sky.
Jean pulled you out of the action and held you close, cuddling you while you watched your other friends screw around like pyromaniacs.
"As much as I hated being here, I don't really want to leave." You muttered.
"Same with me. I'm gonna miss wrestling Eren." Jean agreed, laughing at his own comment.
"I'll miss not having a care in the world. After tomorrow, reality kicks in."
"Right." Jean nodded.
"I'll need to start moving my mother in as quick as possible. That means house hunting, searching for doctors, and extra expenses I'll need to cover." You sighed.
"At least you'll have me and Marco helping you. I'll meet your mother and you'll meet mine, it won't be as hard as you think." Jean reassured you.
"Thanks." You looked up at your boyfriend and smiled, giving him a peck on the lips.
"Woah!" You heard Sasha shriek.
You sharply turned your head towards her and noticed that the firework almost blew up in her hands.
"Why are you holding the firework, you moron?" Connie scolded her, throwing the dead explosive out of her hands. "You could've blown your hand off!"
"Be careful, Sasha!" Marco added.
Jean snickered at Sasha's idiocy. "I'll definitely miss that."
"Who let a bunch of sixteen-year-olds handle dynamite in the first place." You laughed, shaking your head at the situation.
Jean kissed you again, this time off-guard. You slid your hand around the back of his neck and melted into it. He broke away and locked his eyes with yours.
"I love you." He whispered.
"I love you, too."
"Thank you for making this torture tolerable."
"Thank you for being here for me."
