You walked into the mess hall with Jean. He held you with an arm around your shoulder, and your hand held his. You heard a deafening whistle come from your usual table.
"The worlds most idiotic couple has walked in!" Connie laughed, teasing you and Jean as you walked in.
"Coming from the mouth of the worlds shortest guy!" You told Connie in a matter-of-fact tone.
"At least my friends like me." Connie spat, shading your tempered relationship with Jean.
"Shut up, Connie. You're five foot one and have no rights." Jean scoffed.
"That wasn't kind of you, Jean." Marco stated.
"Not kind, but true." Sasha joined in, smacking the back of Connie's head. "It's so fun hitting that bald head of yours."
Offensive banter much like this was common at your table, since you were all very good friends and knew that it was all jokes. Some days, it seemed like you were laughing the loudest, and others, arguing the loudest. Yet, you all maintained a stable and healthy friendship with one another, and you cherished it. In your hometown of Utopia, you almost felt disconnected from the rest of your classmates, and having the trainees by your side was a pleasant change.
While you ate, your table got into yet another controversial conversation.
"Why do the top cadets go into the interior when almost nothing crazy happens there? Shouldn't it be the other way around or something?" Connie wondered.
"But what if something crazy did happen? Surely no 'bottom of the class' cadet would be able to deal with it, right?" Sasha added.
"Okay, but what could possibly happen in the interior? No titans that's for sure." You stated.
"Titans have no business with the Military Police. The Survey Corps are a good enough buffet for them." Jean remarked.
Overhearing your conversation, Eren decided to join in.
"If the Survey Corps was such a delicious buffet, then why did they break down Shiganshina's wall?" He spat.
You rolled your eyes. "This shit again."
"You know, Eren, it's getting quite boring listening to your rambles. It's the same shit over and over again." Jean engaged. "Don't you ever talk about anything else? Or are you a broken record?"
Eren quickly sat up from his table and turned to Jean. "I'll stop when you finally give me a realistic answer."
Jean stood up and walked towards Eren, eyeing him down. "Because you people don't resist. Shiganshina's population was free, and the Survey Corps had a price."
"Shots fired." Connie mumbled.
"Tell me about it." Sasha agreed.
Eren shoved Jean away from him. He was overflowing with rage.
"What's up? You're gonna go tell on me to your mom?" Jean provoked.
"Pfft." You muttered. "If he had one, he'd be halfway there by now."
"At least I wouldn't be on a timer." Eren turned to you.
You stopped picking at your food and dropped your fork. You shot him a side eye and growled. "The fuck does that mean, Jaeger?"
Eren smirked. "We're different, [Y/N]. My mother may be dead, but at least she was living while she was alive. I couldn't say the same for yours."
You jolted toward Eren, pushed Jean away and grabbed him by his shirt. "What are you talking about?"
