My head feels like it keeps smashing into boulders-making me open my eyes. I flicker my eyes because they hurt so bad. Looking around I see I'm in a  hospital room. I don't even notce the breathing machine hooked up to me until I sit up, making the bed alarm go off. Not even thirty seconds later, the nurse comes in.

"Oh my! Hiya there sleepyhead! I'm Francie, your nurse!" Her smile is so big and her voice so perky I groan loudly. It's killing my head. Her face frowns in concern.

"Mercedes, what are your symptoms?" She turns the alarm off and sits down on the bed, making it whoosh, to form her.

I swallow thickly, "headache. I hurt. And hard to talk and breathe," I mumble out. My tounge feels thick and my oxygen feels like it isn't giving.

"You're going to feel better soon with that headache, I put codeine in your IV about five minutes before you woke up. The breathing will get better soon, you stopped breathing and you hit your head so much, that you are going to have to rethink how to breathe and you'll get frustrated, but bare with it, I'll be here coaching you. Now for the even more fun part; you have 4 severely broken ribs, one was just smashed and we took you into surgery immediately. We also had to drill two holes in your skull to stop the swelling in your brain, you're left eye socket is broken, so that's why it hurts to blink. Hm let's see, you have multiple scratches and bruises, your right arm is broken in three places and your ankle is surprisingly sprained. You've been in here for three days, you've had many visitors but I had to change your bedding because you have to go pee and poop on here and I didn't want them to see that, just in case you weren't comfortable with that." I stare at her in shock. How am I alive? I can't even process all that information. I just stare at her.

"Wow that was a lot! But thankfully you're alive and healthy! Now I know that's a ton to take in so there's a therapist who will stop by everyday until you're ready. It'll be three days a week, you will start physical therapy in about two days, and if I'm missing anything or leaving anything out let me know or I'll just pop in and let you know, okay?" Her perkiness is still in tact but it's more acceptable now because of how thankful I am to be alive.

"Okay," She smiles and pats me on the leg before getting up. I watch her walk to the door, pause and turn around to face me with her hand on the door knob.

"Before I forget, your parents had to leave, your..um, Elsa is here as well as your sister and a friend. I'll send them in?" I nod and she smiles again and leaves. I look at the huge window, frustrated I can't see past the blinds. I sit up higher, making the alarm go off but I quickly re-position to stop it.

"Sadie!" Lexus practically screams. I close my eyes, expecting the sharp pain, but instead I feel dizzy. That codeine though...

"Hey Lex," I rasp out. She leans over me to give me a tender hug, I scream in pain.

"Oh gosh I'm so sorry I thought I was soft enough. I'm so so so sorry!" She starts to cry and begins to breath heavy, freaking me out. I move my hand over hers, and painfully smile.

"Your makeup is smearing," I point out, trying to make her feel better.

She wipes at her face before sighing,"shut up, I could care less right now. How are you?" I look into her sad blue, now raccoon eyes, and see pure pain. Maybe she's regretting lying and hiding things from me, and thought what if I died? She won't tell me now, she'll be too scared.

"I'm...I.." I'm lost for description. . I get frustrated because it's hard to talk and the tears start rising, making my numb throat tighten more. I squeeze her hand and try to fight my escaping tears.

"Sadie, it's okay, don't worry just calm down!" She begins to panic even more. I try rushing in more air, there isn't enough air. I feel like my lungs are closing, I sit up, losing my breath half way through.

"Stop!" Lexus screams pulling away and grabbing her hair. I can't stop.

"Someone help!" She screams. I heave for air and lift my good hand to my throat and try to speak before the door clicks open.

"Mercedes, deep breaths baby girl, you're going to be fine, deep breaths honey," Elsa says carrying a handful of stuff, closing the door behind her. I feel a weight lifted off my chest now that she's here. My breathing slowly improves.

"Elsa!" I cry out, attempting to lift my arms but it hurts too bad. She sets the stuff down on the table and rushes to me. I start sobbing and choking on my lack of air again.

"Shh, it's okay. I'm here, please Sadie calm down honey, you're getting yourself worked up, it hurts, I know," She says soothingly. She grips my good hand and rubs her thumb over it. I try to lean over and put my head on her shoulder but the sharp pain of broken ribs, freezes me.

"Oh here let's put this thing on, it's supposed to support your ribs. It's going to hurt but I'll get better, I promise." She reaches around for a plastic vest with a soft inside, helping me get in it. It hurts like hell, but this is my living hell. She puts her cool hands on my face and hold it, I close my eyes and embrace the cold against my burning skin. She pulls my hair away from my face.

"Shh, deep breaths. It's going to be okay, but you need to calm down honey." She rubs my temples with her thumbs before leaning in and whispering, "I'll be right back, Lexus is freaked out to the max."

I pull away and try to smile, but instead, laugh and snot like a toddler. She reaches for a Kleenex and gives it to me before getting up and walking to a sobbing Lexus on the floor, In the corner of the room.

"Lex, hey look at me." I watch Elsa pull her shaking, hunched shoulders open. Lexus looks at her before clinging to her.

"I'm so so so sorry, it's all my fault. I'm sorry, I just panicked!" She rushes her words out fast.

"No it's not your fault, it's okay you're both fine okay? So calm down and come sit on the couch next to her." Elsa pulls Lexus up and leads her to the couch, Lexus smiles at me. Elsa comes around to my good hand and goes to sit on the bed.

"Don't! The stupid alarm will go off!" Lexus says. Elsa laughs and shakes her head before pulling a chair over instead.

"Did mom come?"

"No," Elsa and Lexus say together.

"Cain came by, he brought flowers, Nick came too." That unsettling feeling in my stomach came back at the sound of Nicks name.

The door bursts open, "Oh excuse me, sorry that was a little harsh of an entrance, I'm going to have to ask you ladies to step out until I'm done," My nurses typically happy face looked very frantic and nervous. The girls left

"What's wrong?"

"Tests came back, the doctors missed something major, we need to get you into an ultrasound asap."

"Why? I don't understand?"

"They missed a test that said you're pregnant, I don't know if the baby could survive the damage nor the drugs we used. I'm so sorry, there's no answer for how it was over looked, we're all looking into it now."

"I can't be pregnant, I'm sorry whatever test is wrong," My heart machine starts beeping due to my increased heart activity, my face heats up, there's no way.

"Denial happens in these situations, but yes honey your test was positive."
