Synopsis:
Elizabeth Baker returns home to Seattle for a new internship and her mother's wedding. However things go differently than she planned when she acts on an intense sexual tension between her and her stepbrother Reid Parker.Plot:
I thought this story put a new interesting twist on the forbidden romance trope. However the way the conflict is resolved at the end of the story seemed unrealistic to me. Essentially the main character's love interest saves her mother and exacts revenge on her kidnappers. It seemed to me that it would be more realistic that the main male character would call the police rather than just charge in with his own personal security force and save her himself. Also breaking someone's legs in the name of revenge is not legal (unfortunately) and I doubt someone as famous as him could get away with it. I give the plot a four out of five stars.
Grammar:
I caught a few grammar mistakes where the author had run on sentences, used the wrong capitalization in her dialogue tags, or forgot a word in a sentence. However the mistakes were few and far between so I give this story a four out of five on grammar.
Theme:
I had mixed feelings about this book's theme. On the one hand it gave me strong life is what happens when you're busy making other plans vibes but in a fresh new way. However on the other hand I felt like the author was trying to convey that you should get to know someone better before fully trusting them because Elizabeth's mother married a man that turned out to be a lunatic. In my opinion though that message is negated by the fact that shortly after the main character practically gets engaged to a man she has barely known a year. I give this book's theme a four out of five.
Character Development:
I found the main female character in this book to be likable and complex. However the love interest was pretty bland he seemed kind of like just a dime a dozen wattpad billionaire that you find in romance books. I give this story a three out of five on character development.Additional Note:
This book had a lot of cliches. Including multiple scenes where the main female character has to be saved from a sexual predators by her love interest. I've seen this scene in so many books on wattpad and it felt very overdone and unexciting. In addition to this there is also a scene where the main characters love interest calls her doll face. Which was extremely cringy to say the least. Finally, if you look at the amount of time the main character Elizabeth actually spends talking to Reid in comparison to the amount of time in the book they spend having sex and, factor in that the two have not even known each other for a full year, it can feel like their relationship is based more off of infatuation then love.
Conclusion:
Overall I give this book a 3.75 out of five stars. As far as the cheesy billionaire romance trope on wattpad goes it was a great example. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't enjoy romance books or anyone who doesn't like smut scenes because this book has a lot of those.
