I ripped the poster off of the glass window, and allowed myself to further intrude the place.

"I am looking for the owner of this restaurant...?" I asked.

"Why?" was her response.

"Um, actually, I saw this poster right here," I pointed my chin at the doorway.

"So?"

I don't even know why I am explaining her these things, or why she is answering my questions with yet more questions.

"So, it will be appreciable if I could have a word with the owner-" before I could complete my sentence, she said,
"I am the owner, sweetie".

"Uh?" was all that left my mouth.

She stood up, and went to stand behind the cash-counter. It was right then, when I realised how tall she was.

"Now getting the feels?" she asked me, while stretching her arms out to her sides. At a glance, one would think, that she is a model promoting fancy kitchen-wares. I snapped out of it, and nodded my head vigorously.
As soon as I realised that she was the owner, her presence became even more vivid.

She shook her head at me, "You just have to nod once. Take it easy, it's not like there is anyone else here".

I nodded for one more time. As she was making her way back to her seat, I ran my eyes through the room once again. Surely, there is no one else...

She sat back and looked at me. I regained my composure, and bowed a little before ranting on the lines which I have repeated millions of times before, in front of different employers.
"I am Emily Williams, age 21. I will work diligently with zeal and zest to lessen the burden on your shoulders, and try my best to enhance the overall efficient work. Please hire me."

After I finished my two-lined speech, I looked at her. She had an eye-brow raised at me. After staring for quite a time, she said, "You don't have to work diligently for enhancing the efficient work. Since, there are no customers here anyways."

With this, she started tracing the rim of the coffee cup placed in front of her.

"Uh?" was all that left my mouth, again. I continued to stare at her until I was sure that she is not going to say anything else.

"I am sure, it's not like that people wouldn't like it here, may be the weather is a bit hot for chickens right now...?" I plastered a smile on my face as I tried my best to... I don't know, may be reassure her?
Well, here pals, after giving interviews for almost every sort of job so far, one thing I know for sure, is all you should remain, is positive and enthusiastic for your employer. Or else.... well, they simply don't like it.

"Yes, it's hot, so there are no customers... But even if it's winter, there are no customers... Rain doesn't bring any significant changes either... No customers."

How am I supposed to react now? She presented it like there was a curse haunting her place. Now, I was even doubting that she put up that poster to lure someone in here, just to have a small heart-to-heart.

Given my condition, I was not in the mood to have one right now.

I sighed.

"Then why did you put up a poster there? Saying you need workers?"

"Oh, I need workers."

"What for? If there are just no customers here?"

"Even if there are no customers, I should keep my place clean, and chic, and beautiful. There might be some customers in future," she simply stated.

After hearing this, I could basically feel the warmth of the small flicker of hope inside my heart.

"So...?"

"So?" she repeated after me.

"So, you know--?" I pressed.

"Yeah, I know! You are hired," a gasp left my mouth as soon as I heard this.

"...Is what you want me to say, don't ya?" she completed her sentence, blowing off the damned flicker inside me.

"Well, yeah... Of course, I want you to say that," I responded as-a-matter-of-factly.

"Since you asked so nicely... You are hired," this time, she raised her head to make an eye contact with me.

"Huh? What do you mean by hired?"

"Well, as far as I know, according to the Cambridge English dictionary, 'hired' means 'to employ someone for a short duration of time'..."

She stood up to put her cup in the sink. My eyes followed her as she went all the way to the other end of the room and took out an apron. She turned around and continued, "as long as you know how to brew a nice coffee, it's fine to be laid back a little."

She threw the apron at me.

"A hot cup of coffee cools me down."

I simply nodded my head, unsure of what to say. My mind went from 'emily.exe' to 'emily.jpg'.

"So, come here. Shall we not discuss your pay?" she smiled at me.
"I am Gemma. Gemma Blaine."

Her welcoming smile, suddenly left me feeling reassured. I felt that my face was practically beaming, as I made my way to the little chair she was offering.
