"Will, why aren't you going?" Nico asked.
"Because I'd prefer to stay with you, if that's alright?"
Nico gave the most subtle nod and if Will hadn't spent so long looking at and noticing every small thing about Nico he wouldn't have picked it up. So, he moved into a lying position with their hands still linked and looked up at the sky with Nico.
"You know, this reminds me of our first date. We held hands and lay under the sky, remember?" Will began, trying to bring Nico back to him.
"Mhm, and the next day people wouldn't leave us alone so I summoned a lot of skeletons; specifically at Percy and Jason." Nico mumbled.
"Yeah." Will laughed. "Even against my doctor's orders. It was a crazy time. I'm so glad you said yes, I am so lucky to have you."
Nico didn't reply. He didn't want to ask why as he knew today he would ignore everything Will would reply with. Will looked over as Nico sighed in response and brought their hands up above them. They were very different: light and dark, black and gold, sun and moon, bright and shadow. Yet, their could not be one without the other.
Light could not exist without the existence of dark. Dark could not exist without the existence of light.
"I remember telling you I wanted to be your sun and you could be my moon. I want to be a source of light in your life just as you give me light in the dark. I want to help you... let me help you Nico. Come back to me." he spoke with tenderness.
Something stirred in Nico's obsidian eyes. The hazy glaze cleared and his eyes seemed to contain some life again. Nico took in a great breath and turned on his side to look at Will. He gave an almost invisible smile and brought their hands close to his chest.
"Thanks." he whispered.
"Anytime." Will replied lightly.
It was true. Will would always be there for Nico whether Nico knew, or wanted, it or not because he chose to always be there for the younger. Nico was an incredible person who needed someone to show him that. Will was that person.
"You need a haircut." Nico blurted out before blushing with wide eyes, shocked that he said that out loud.
"Me?! You need one just as bad." he smiled and brushed Nico's dark hair out of his eyes.
"Maybe."
"Not maybe, definitely. But before that, how about you come and have some dinner. Doctor's orders." he added with a smile.
"Fine." said Nico and allowed Will to pull him to his feet. Ruffling his love's hair, Will grinned and pulled Nico into a tight hug and Nico placed his head against Will's heart. The regular pattern helped calm him down and gave him something to focus on. Will gave a light kiss to Nico's head before pulling away and taking his hand.
"Let's go."
Nico answered once more with a nod, pulled on his jacket, and they set off together back through the forest for dinner...
"I want McDonalds." said Nico.
"But it's-"
"Please." he added.
Will sighed and looked over at Nico who gave him the cutest smile and puppy eyes. Nico knew Will couldn't resist his puppy eyes and although it stained his reputation, desperate times called for desperate measures. With a laugh, Will grinned before pulling him along at a run. How could he say no?
"Alright then, but hurry and we may be able to sneak out."
Nico let out a mischievous laugh in reply, ran faster and ended up pulling Will along with him.
"Then let's go!"
The couple ran together laughing out of the forest holding hands and smiling. Unknown to them, a certain group of demigods were watching them with fond smiles of their own. They looked at the pair with happiness in their hearts at how perfect they were together.
"It really is incredible isn't it?"
"Well, as they say: opposites attract."
And indeed it was. Two completely different people in prefect harmony. A blazing sun and a powerful angel.
An incredible love story indeed.
