Battle for Narcissus

Daggered fingers etch shivers into softly bruised skin.
Burning kisses and gnashing teeth leave behind a tender ache.
Blinding light reflects every flaw of a frozen body.

I've trained my soul to tear apart each piece of my body,
taught teeth-sharpened nails how to leave new imperfect impressions on glass skin
until drowning in a liquid mirror leaves behind a war-drum headache.

Where would I be without self-inflicted heartache?
Would I celebrate each hard-won victory when I admire the battered armor of my skin,
allow my haunted mind to dream of being beauty embodied?

I wrap my paper skin in ice that dulls the aching thud of my body longing to return home.
