Adeline: Age 16
"I hate you! I wish you died instead of my mother!" I winced after I yelled that to my Grandmother, bitterly swallowing my tears.
But her expression remained unaffected my burst of emotions, "I'm fully aware that you feel that I am strict on you but I will not have you go on that weekend boat trip to Cape Cod with your friends. It's not that I do not trust you but there will be boys and do not protest, I am well aware that the Livingston twins will be in attendance along with Nathaniel Haven-fort and that other boy, Rosthchild that I have been made aware that is quite fond of you."
I groaned exasperated, "But Caroline will be there and so will Margot, Elaine, Poppy, and Rosalie!"
I was really banking that my grandmother didn't know about Sebastian Rothschild but of course people at the country club talk and gossip. Even if it was just us chatting over lemonade. I hated that stupid place but Sebastian was gorgeous. He was smart, sweet and the most gorgeous ocean blue eyes and sable brown hair perfectly combed but with some wavy strands falling, tall and of nice built. Truthfully, I wanted to make out with him but of course, Cordelia Renaud is 100 steps ahead of me and I'm pissed. This trip to Cape Cop was supposed to be all of us and now I can't go.
"You know why I will not allow this." She reminded me yet again.
"I'm not my mother! I won't get myself pregnant with fifteen! Things are different now, you know? And you know Sebastian's family. He comes from a respectable and well to do family. If anything, I think he is exactly who I should be thinking of marriage minded. Imagine us. I could be Adeline Renaud-Rothschild. Wife of Sebastian Rothschild, We both graduate from Ivy League schools and he takes over his family's business as CEO and I dedicate my time to running a non-profit for children and then we have two children and we are the poster perfect family. Is that not what you want for me??" Admitted, I egged on the picture but I knew that is what she wanted for me. To marry into old money and be the poster perfect family that she fights so hard to protect.
She sighed, waving her hand at me, "I suppose you are correct about that. The Rothschild name is well respected and no doubt that Sebastian will take over his father and I would see him as a worthy husband to you, Adeline...." She paused, "I am trusting you to do have any debauchery on this trip but I want you you back by Sunday before Dinner. Understood?"
I squealed jumping to hug her but instantly she lightly shoved me from my burst of excitement, "Go on and pack your bags. Ernest will take you." She retreated back to her chair reaching for her cup of tea.
I raced back up to my bedroom to finish packing and inform the girls on the group chat that I was finally coming along.
The trip was a success because that weekend solidified my relationship with Sebastian. We quickly became an item. My grandmother was surprisingly pleasant about us dating because it meant that I was not my mother and would not have a chance to be the disappointment of the family. Sebastian was really the perfect boyfriend. He was confident, smart, respectful and of course to my Grandmother's pleasure, he was incredibly wealthy. I lost my virginity to him a month after that boat trip. His parents had gone for the weekend and I told Grandmother that we were going to a play in the city. Sebastian had gone as far to purchase tickets to some classical piece but the reality was, we spent the weekend having sex. I thought he was it for me. I thought life was perfect and I was finally happy.
And then my Grandmother said his name. Matteo DeMarco.

She scoffed at Papa when he mentioned seeing him, "Some people will never be part of our circle. He may be an attorney but he will always be our daughter's downfall."
