Prologue

Grandmother Cordelia swore to me, "Your mother was such a liability. Racing out of the house, running off with some lowly boy that she stuck around with. Then she became pregnant. I did my best to remedy the situation but I presume that boy is the reason. Nosey little foul mouth breather."

But when I asked if he was my father, she purses her lips and shrugs, "Who knows." Growing up without knowing who my father was, was one thing but without my mother. Things felt empty. Cordelia was.. cold, aloof but she did her best raising me. Grandfather Renaud was firm but kind, he treated me as his own. I call him Papa but most people just call him Charles.

I wish I could say I had a fucked up childhood so I could justify why I was so insane to find out the truth. I guess I could. I never expected to find out the entire truth and realize how fucked up the Renaud family really is.

Growing up where the walls were never-ending, every door led to something new, staff was ever changing, tutors, nannies, friends, life. I wanted something constant in life. I was excited when I got accepted into Columbia. My grandmother of course would not hear of it if I had rented a dorm room so she graciously placed me in a lavish apartment in the Upper East Side in hindsight, is much nicer than sharing a bathroom with other people. College was the best time, I felt so free, studying, partying, making friends but as the older I grew, I couldn't help to wonder.. Who is Matteo DeMarco and why did he have to do with my mother's Suicide?

I remember the first time I walked up to the building of his job. My black heels and emerald green body hugging dress set to stomp on the heart of the man that took my mother from me but the joke is on me because the real devil was in front of me all along.

Matteo is the man I was warned to stay away with but now i can't imagine my life without him. I have to protect us. No matter how fucked up and twisted our love story is. This is ours and anyone that wants to judge can fuck off.
