Matteo

"Matteo DeMarco, Did you chase that pretty girl off?" Mom came back scolding me, I knew she took longer because she wanted us to chat. I was thankful for that. Adeline. What a pretty name for such a gorgeous woman.

"I did not, Ma." I shook my head, taking a bite out of the pecorino cheese, "She had to leave but I did get her number. We're going out tomorrow."

I wish I never said that because her eyes lit up like Christmas lights. She wanted me to be happy, I was her only son. My younger sister Aria was young and god I wish she wold stay that way. I didn't date much. The last relationship I was in was a year ago and Morgan was suffocating. She definitely wanted my status more than me. Dates here and there but no one that captivated me like Adeline did.

When I turned and saw the gorgeous brunette, long wavy brown hair, big hazel eyes, pink pout lips. She was small but even with that cream sweater

and jeans she had on couldn't hide that those pants hugged her curves perfectly. I didn't expect her to be so chatty and an open book but I could see how sad and tormented she was. My throat felt I could breath when she said her ex boyfriend and her broke up. An idiot. A woman like that? I would work my hardest to make her happy. Younger but she handled herself well.

"I have a good feeling about her. She's a pretty girl." Mom smiles, "Come on, Let's have breakfast."

"I do too mom." I nodded, something about her just had me thinking of her all day. Even when I left my parent's farm, I wanted to text her. Would she think I was desperate? Fuck it.

"How's Luna adjusting to the big city?" I hit send. Cringing, why did I say that? I'm a grown man and I'm nervous texting a girl. God damnit.

Five minutes later a notification sounds on my phone. It's Adeline. "She's a City girl already." A photo of Luna curled up on her lap and Adeline sat on the floor. I smiled looking at it.

"You two were made to be best friends." I reply back.

She replied back shortly, "I think so too. As long as she doesn't chew any shoes..."

I laughed softly, "Better hide your good shoes."

"Consider the closet locked! Lol"

"I'm looking forward to seeing you tomorrow." I send. I sound desperate. Jesus Christ.

"If you're back in the city. Maybe we can cancel drinks tomorrow. I'll order some take out and we can hang out in my apartment?"

I grin, I actually grin reading her text, "I'll bring the food and I will still take you out tomorrow. Deal?"

"It's a deal."

Holding a bag of Thai take out, I walk up to her building. Turns out she's only a block away from me. The doorman lets me in and I walk to the elevator, pressing level 12. I'm 35 years old. I deal with criminals, judges, people on a daily basis and I'm nervous to be with Adeline. I feel like I'm 16 again and trying to ask out a girl. She turned me down. Adeline seems like the girl that's worth the wait.

I knock on her door, minute later Adeline opens the door, except she's in the same jeans and a olive green plain shirt and pink striped socks. She was undeniably cute as she was sexy. "I come with Thai food."

"Yes! Come on in. Make yourself comfortable." She lets me in, closing the door. Luna is on the couch wagging her tail. I scratch her head as she hops off as follows Adeline. I place down the food on the coffee table as she comes back with disposable plates and wine, "Do you drink red wine?"

"I do." I nod, taking out the food out of its bag, I'm sorry Luna. Not for you. Thai food isn't for puppies." Looking at her while she wags her tail at me but huffs when she heard no.
