It's been 24hours and Josh is now officially reported missing. Don't you find it ironic? How you have to wait 24hours before the cops actually take you seriously about someone gone missing. That means that if it's a kidnapping, they have a full day to do whatever they wish with that person. If they are lucky they are killed straight away otherwise you get a day of rape or torture, and probably more if the cops don't catch on to you quick enough. Thankfully I am a cop, so Josh didn't have to wait 24hours for the investigation to start. Still I wonder how the kid is holding up. I have been taken off the case, why? Well I didn't go home, I went to the station to search for suspects and video surveillance, knocked on the doors of everybody who lived near the park, researched wanted kidnappers etc
Oh and beat up Marcus... and then got beaten ,"sigh", that man's a beast.
*phone starts ringing * The Director? Does she miss me already?
- Hey do you want me back on....
- Dan. Station. Now.
*Beep, beep, beep *
Something is up, I know bosses are meant to be bossy but Director Williams is not. At least not usually but she is a woman.
Anyway I grab my coat and keys and make my way to the station. Once I'm there, the Director is waiting in front of the building.
- Hello ma'am.
- Hello, we got a package destined for you.
- Let me guess, blood?
- Yep, go open it. Might be a part of Josh.
- Hopefully just a finger.
The package was in a bomb safe room on a table. The cardboard had soaked up as much blood as it could and a little more gathered on the metal table. I thought to myself that it was a lot of blood for a finger and quite a big box too. The director stood in the observation room as I made my way to open the box that had my name on it. What ever it was, it had been nicely wrapped up in a plastic bag filled with blood, it must have been knocked around because the bag was slowly losing it's contents through a tiny whole. Now what? I slip some gloves on and start to search inside the bag. A lab tech brought down some plastic trays and tubs to put the contents in. I like the lab techs, they are really smart and put up with a lot of pressure from the higher ups who tend to look down on them. I don't know why, they work a lot harder to get here then cops do. They looked worried, of course, but super excited.
Not surprising really, you only see this in films and crime novels, not in real life. Before they started to leave I asked them to stay with me to confirm the contents, it must have been really hard for them to not show their excitement but I've never seen someone so happy in my pip.
We listed the contents in the order of which they came out of the bag: blood, hair, nails, hand and lastly an organ that looked like a stomach. Felt pretty sick at this point but as I was taking my hand out, I noticed something under the bag. A photo. It was covered in blood but I could recognise that photo from anywhere. It was one of Sarah Cliffwood's photos, the one where Josh's mother was hanging from the ceiling.
I nodded my head to the lab tech and the Director. I stepped out of the room and sat on the closest chair I could find.*A few moments later. *
- Here's a coffee Dan.
- Tony? What are you doing here?
Tony Moore, a very tall and handsome British man. I usually don't call men handsome but he really is gorgeous, he fit in straight away when he transferred here from London. He seemed to be quite famous in England but decided to leave that life behind to move in with his new American wife. He's a nice guy and a good detective.
- Director called me in to take over your case.
- Of course she would "sigh", well I'm glad it's now your case and not Dicken's.
- Thanks but Bill Dicken is definitely a better detective then me.
- He's a dick, even his name states that.
- Yeah you two have never gotten along haha. Heard what's been happening, you were keeping the kid?
- He's not a pet, I'm not keeping him, he's my partner.
- And a kid.
- His age says he's a minor but when you meet him you'll see that he's probably more mature then Williams.
- That's quite a bold statement Dan. But I see you've taken to him quite a bit.
- I guess I have, he just grows on you.
- It's good for you to have someone else in your life.
- As honest as ever I see.
- Ah! Sorry If that upset you.
- Nah I'm used to it, I'm grateful that you're like you are.
- What am I like?
- You always say what you think, well actually you speak before you think which is why when you gossip it doesn't seem like you are. To resume it, you're an idiot?
- But a good detective.
- Agreed.
- Talking about gossip, the station has changed a bit since you've come back.
- I've noticed.
- You haven't took any cases on since "you know what" so they are all gossiping about how you're back and that you're going to create problems again. But to be honest I missed you, it was fun having you around even if you had all the good cases. I might be a good detective but you are definitely a better detective.
- Yeah I like you too Tony, now take your gay shit and go and work on your case.
- Oh about the case, the body parts aren't Josh's.
- You should have started off with that you prick.
- They seem to belong to a local old man with a criminal record such as kidnapping, theft and rape.
- And that guy was just roaming on the streets?
- He was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and had some major mental problems. No wife or kids, no address, no bank account so probably homeless. I think it sounds similar to that serial killer you kept going on about.
- You make it sound like I made 'him' up. But yes you are right.
- I'm going to go question the area where he supposedly spent most of his time, a woman said she saw him two days ago and spoke with him. She thinks what he said might help with the investigation.
- ....
- Yes you can go with him.
- Director?
- He's you're partner, I won't let you have the case but I'm not going to ask you to wait around either. And I'm pretty sure Tony wants you to go with him.
- You sure?
- Go before I change my mind.
- You're even prettier when you're nice Director.
- On second thought...
- I'm off !
