I woke up in a hospital bed, confused and lost for words. What happened? Did I pass out?

- Hey kid, nice to know you are alive.

I look over to see Dan sat on a chair next to my bed. I start to lift my arm to take a look at the drip stuck in it and realise that I have been handcuffed to the bed.

- Oh, right, suspected of murder.

- It is just a precaution.

- Of course it is.

- We got the autopsy report, the injuries found on the victim's  body indicated blunt force injury to the neck and homicidal hanging. They also allowed the body to rot to destroy evidence. We are going through the phone numbers in your mother's phone. Questioning with her lovers will start later tomorrow.

- And I am the main suspect.

- Of course you are, you had motive and keep insisting that you didn't notice her body. It isn't looking good kid.

- Great.

- You don't get it do you? If we don't find evidence to prove your innocence then you will be put on death row.

- I get it.

- I'm in charge of the case.

- Fucking fantastic, I am screwed

- I don't think you did it.

- Why?

- You are just a kid and looking at your health I don't think you are physically capable of hitting your mother that hard in the neck or lifting her up.

- I may have had help.

- That is the problem, we couldn't get any evidence from the crime scene. It was wiped clean, there wasn't even traces of you living there.

- Well, that is creepy, I was definitely living there.

- We know, your neighbours confirmed in their testimony that they saw you leave and come back from school everyday. You are sure it was only your mother and you living there ?

- Yeah, I am sure, unless somebody went in during the day while I wasn't home.

- Nobody in the neighbourhood saw anybody else but you go in the house.

- Well, there you have it.

Dan wrote down all of the questions he had just asked and the answers I gave him

- That should be all for now, more questions will come up as the case continues.

A nurse comes in with some papers and puts them down near my feet.

- The request for Mr.Winter to stay in the hospital has been accepted, at least until his health improves.

- Thanks Susan, I owe you one.

I look at the nurse and at Dan, great, that means I am stuck here. I guess it is better than staying alone at Dan's place.

- Sorry kid, I didn't ask you what you wanted, but I thought you would rather stay here, then at my place by yourself our at detox.

- How thoughtful.

- Anyway, I'm off to work, Susan here will take care of you while you are getting better. I'll come check on you tonight.

- You don't need to.

I lift my handcuffed hand at look at Dan.

- I am not going anywhere.
