"I SEE YOU two seem to be getting along."
My eyes snapped open to the sight of Cher standing before me. It looked like she had somewhat of an amused look on her face, but it wasn't until I realized the predicament I was in did her expression make sense. I was sprawled across the couch with my body smushed against her son, who had his arms wrapped around me. The fact that he was shirtless did not help in the slightest.
I practically leapt off of him, my cheeks turning crimson. "Good morning," I said as casually as I could.
Shane let out a groan, and I silently prayed he wouldn't wake up. The only thing more mortifying than this situation was if he remembered it too. Of course luck wasn't on my side because Shane woke up.
"Keep it down, would you?" He closed his eyes, but they instantly shot open when he registered the situation. "What happened?"
"I'm still trying to figure out." Cher looked at us with an expression I couldn't read. "I can't say I know what's going on, but as long as you two aren't fighting, I really don't care."
I was baffled by Cher's response. If it were my mother who walked in on this, she would've exploded.
Shane, who was still adjusting to reality, slowly got up. "Me and Maxy are best friends now." He threw an arm over my shoulder, and playfully punched me, but the force was so hard it made me wince.
"The best," I squeaked, elbowing him in the ribs.
Cher did not look like she believed us one bit, but I didn't blame her. "Well you two chose the perfect timing to be friends. I have a conference in Seattle."
"Wait, that's today?" Shane asked, his eyebrows shooting up in surprise.
"Don't worry, it's not like I've been reminding you for the past three weeks," she said with a shake of her head. "Anyway, it's only a half day conference, so I should be back before tomorrow morning."
Shane shrugged. "That's not too bad. Still better than the two week conference in Germany."
Cher pinched the bridge of her nose. "Don't remind me. I had food poisoning for the whole two weeks." She grabbed her briefcase and coat, and checked to see if she had everything. "Order whatever you'd like, just try to stay out of trouble."
Shane rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever."
Cher kissed his cheek. "Be good." She then surprised me by kissing my cheek as well. "Please don't let this dummy burn down my house."
I chuckled, smirking at Shane who was glaring at us. "Your house is in good hands."
She waved goodbye before going outside to the taxi I presumed was waiting for her.
Today just got slightly more interesting.

I took that back. The day could not be more boring. Oliver and Austin were outside selling their rival lemonade, Shane was locked in his bedroom, and I was flipping through channels on the TV as I tried to keep my mind off of Jordan.
I left him three voicemails last night, but he still hadn't returned any of my calls. I told myself I wouldn't dwell on it, but I couldn't help it. Jordan was the only thought on my mind, no matter how hard I tried to suppress it.
"Are you still being sulky?" Shane flipped down on the couch beside me, rudely interrupting my self destructive thoughts. I was just relieved that he was actually dressed now. The last thing I needed was for one of the kids to see us in a compromising position while he was nearly naked. "Feel free to answer my question once you're done undressing me with your eyes."
