Lydia sighed, pressing her lips into a thin line, looking at herself in the mirror. She was at Kie's house getting ready for Midsummers- which is a fancy party at a country club in Kooklandia. Normally, Lydia wouldn't be caught dead at a party like midsummers but she promised Kie that she would go. Plus, it was a nice distraction from the worry she felt for a certain blonde boy. They hadn't seen him since he was arrested and Lydia just hoped that he was okay and that he would show up soon

Lydia's dress was a simple, baby blue that hugged her right at the waist before flowing loosely. She'd never admit it, but she loved the fancy dress and feeling pretty for a night.

"This is disgusting" Kie scoffed, joining Lydia in front of the mirror, "But you look smokin babe"

"Thank you but Kie shut up, you look amazing." Lydia said

"I know. It's just horrible" Kie's mom responded to her daughter, entering the room, "I'm asking you to relax and go to a fun party"

"I look like a bourgeoisie pig" Kie replied

"Will you please not worry about socioeconomic injustice for one night?" Kie's mom asked, putting in a pair of diamond earrings

"Mom, people not three miles from here have no power, no running water, and we're going to Midsummers" Kie said, before adding "That's so tone-deaf. Literally, Lydia is one of those people"

"Do you know how hard we had to work to get into the Island Club?" Kies mom asked

Lydia ignored the rest of their argument, curling her hair and letting it brush along her bare shoulders.

Kie and Lydia made their way through the fancy house and out to the backyard where the party was mainly happening. They spotted Pope, helping his dad cater the event, and walked over

"Excuse me sir" Kie said in a horrible English accent, "Do we have to shuck these ourselves? Cause it might mess up my costume"

"We wouldn't want that now, would we?" Pope said, moving the hug each of the girls

"That accent was so bad" Lydia commented

"It was. I was gonna let it go" Kie said laughing

"You ever seen this many Kooks in one place?" Lydia asked

"Yeah. Last Year" Pope said

"We're in the lions den" Kie added

"Have you heard from JJ?" Pope asked

Lydia frowned "I was hoping you had"

"He'll be all right. He's got the survival instincts of a cockroach" Kie said, trying to comfort her worried friends

"It's all my fault" Pope muttered

"Uh- You didn't do this, Pope. Topper almost killed you. Remember?" Kie said, soon being cut off by the applause signaling that the Cameron's were making their grand entrance

"Here comes Lord Capital and the Exploiters" Lydia said

"She's gonna poke somebody's eye out with that" Pope said, referring to the gold, spiky headband that Rose Cameron was wearing

Pope had to get back to helping his dad while Kie and Lydia socialized for Kie's parents. The girls were busy with talking to some Kook family but Pope spotted a familiar mess of blonde hair, making its way through the crowd. Pope ran up behind him, practically tackling JJ

"Dude, don't sneak up on me like that right now." JJ said, turning to face the boy. Pope quickly embraced him

"Whoa. Unexpected PDA there, Dr. Spock. But, hey, love you too man." JJ said in response to the hug
