"He's just the weirdest person I've ever met" I tell Heather on our way out of the main building of UCLA.
"Like he doesn't know now much stuff cost it's like he's completely oblivious about the value of money" I sit down on the grass with my laptop and Heather joins beside me.
"What do you think? Did a rich relative of his die, is he an alien or should I consider becoming a professor of The university of Columbia" Heather just looks at me like she knows the answer but won't tell me. Her eyes have that "really girl" look in them.
"Really?" I say and puff her shoulder.
"Girl he's just showing off" her response doesn't give me much clarity. Why would he show off.
"Why?" I ask and wrinkle my forehead in confusion.
"Girl, he likes you" those 4 words almost make me drop my computer on the grass. I look up on her opening her laptop.
We decided to do some of our assignments in the nice weather on the grass outside the humanistic building. The sun and good weather makes it easier to read 20 pages.
"No Heather he does not" Heather doesn't look convinced in any way.
"We both agreed just to be friends" she's still not amused.
"This is my last year I need to focus on my studies and not on love or whatever" I say and open up my laptop.
Truth be told I'm like any other college student drowning in homework, essays and reports. And being on a scholarship there's a lot of pressure on me. Education over anything else. I can't be focusing on anything but that.
"Well he's totally into you" she has that smirk on her face. A real Heather smirk.
"Well we're just friends" she shakes her head at me trying to give me attitude "seriously friends". It's almost like I have to spell it out for her.
"Well he still tries to impress you" Heather grabs my attention with that comment.
"Well that does explain his actions" but I wish that it wasn't true I would rather have him be an alien.
"But what do I do? I don't want to lead him on" college students are coming from every side surrounding us as they're walking out all the buildings in UCLA.
"Be honest with him" her advice doesn't really help since I've already told him I'm not interested. But some guys won't take no for an answer. Hiccup just doesn't feel like that type of guy.
"But I was honest with him, and he understood my situation"
"Then change it"
"What?"
Does Heather want me to break my rule? I can't do that. I made up that rule so I could focus on my studies. I already have too many things in my life with work and school I can't add a boyfriend.
"A, change your dumb rule" Heather makes it sound like it's one of those hangover promises. When you're completely hungover and say you won't drink again but then the next weekend break it. But my rule isn't an empty promise. I made it to keep me on track.
"Heather come on you know me" she looks up from her laptop and leans closer.
"Please, you broke it with William why not Hiccup" I didn't exactly break it with William, since I broke up with him once our relationship got too complicated and it started interfering with my school. I made up the rule afterwards and I've sticked to it for a year now.
"I made up the rule after Will" I correct her but she just rolls her eyes.
"Astrid you're almost done and you're on fire" this is going to turn into one of those inspiring pep talks.
"You're going to graduate on the top of our class" here we go.
"Get an awesome job and change the world" Oh how Heather can put it on thick.
"But what's it worth having all those amazing things if you don't have someone to share it with?" She has never been a fan of my put education and work before love ethic.
"Please I have you" and it's true I have a great family, and awesome friends. I will fall in love when I'm ready.
"Well am I enough?" I just smiled at her.
"Of course".
This was a short chapter and it actually wasn't supposed to be written I just thought Astrid needed to talk about Hiccup's odd actions with someone so she wasn't too suspicious about who he is. This talk was actually supposed to happen at a party with the three girls where the boys showed up out of no where but I changed it as I wrote it. Thought this was more down to earth and then the next party they attend has no guidelines, so make sure to keep reading!
Spoiler for next chapter:
"Mommy why can't I be a bird?"
