Hiccup sips his wine as he walks through the room trying to avoid the small talk. But he can't avoid it for long as he hears his name being yelled.
"Hiccup!"
Hiccup turns around to see who just shouted his name. But the crowd of people makes it hard. He squints his eyes in confusion the name Hiccup isn't the most common name.
"Hiccup"
he turns around again and this time he notices a platinum white haired boy yelling his name. His hands are in the air waving Hiccup over.
He moves closer and so does Hiccup until they're right in front of each other."Jack, long time no see" the two boys emerge in a hug each with a smile. Hiccup is thanking God in his mind that Jack is here. But of course he has to, it's the launch party for their collaboration.
"It's been way too long where have you been?" Jack says and places his hand on Hiccup's shoulder. Hiccup smiled when he first saw Jack but his face sunk down when he heard that question.
"Well I've been in LA" he replies while looking down in the ground.
"That's right I saw you met a girl" Jack teases but Hiccup is not in the mood. Because truth be told he didn't just meet any girl he met the girl. But that is all History in Hiccup's mind.
"Oh so you saw that" Hiccup doesn't make eye contact with Jack out of embarrassment.
"So where is this dazzling girl?" Jack asks trying to catch up with Hiccup's life. Little does he knows that Hiccup's time in LA wasn't a short story is was a novel.
"She's in LA" Hiccup replies plainly trying his best not to seem too sad "We broke up".
Jack's smile fades to a frown. He quickly regretted asking but it was too late. He saw the sadness in his old friends eyes but didn't know what to say.
"I'm... I'm sorry man" Jack finally says. Hiccup pulls his shoulders trying to pretend he's unbothered by the subject.
"It's fine. It was for the best" Hiccup replies trying to make this depressing catching up a little less sad. But it leads to a short awkward pause.
"Remember what you said" Hiccup breaks the silence "back when we first met?".
Jack shakes his head. The first time they met they were young. Hiccup had just turned 15 and Jack 17. Therefore Jack is having a hard time remembering a conversation they had 9 years ago.
"No what?" Jack runs his hand through his hair as he replies.
"You said that the only love we can have is the one money can buy" Hiccup doesn't look up from the ground like he's not even talking to Jack.
"That was back then" Jack tries to correct and be empathetic "Now I'm engaged to the love of my life".
Jack has changed a lot through the years but the person who changed him the most was his current fiancé, Elsa. They met similarly to the way Hiccup met Astrid. He was on a business trip to Norway and met the most gorgeous girl there. With one exception he didn't lie about his identity but even with that knowledge she didn't know who he was.
"You're going to find somebody too" Jack pep talks Hiccup but it doesn't help. Hiccup fakes a smile and puts his hand on Frost's shoulder.
"Want to get some bad catering food?" He asks with a forced smile. Jack nods and they move towards the buffet passing the bathrooms on the way. Where another blond is currently crawling through the bathroom window.
"Come on" Astrid says praying nobody is the stall she's crawling into. After a little wiggling and a lot of effort she can jump down onto the bathroom floor. To her luck she's alone in the booth she sighs and dusts off her hands. When security won't let you in that's when you have to get creative.
