"What?" She said, lifting her eyes from her book towards me.
"Uhm... Don't laugh," I said, my cheeks flushed. "I uhm...."
"Leia, just say it." Nesta flatly said, her eyes were narrowed on me.
"I don't know how to read." I blurted out. I was young, too young, when my parents lost their wealth. I never received an education, and so I never learned how to read. The library is a place of solace, but it is also a place that confronts me with my inability to read. I watched as Nesta blinked at me.
"Oh. Leia, why didn't you tell us this sooner?" Nesta carefully asked. I hung my head in shame.
"Well, what was I supposed to say, Nesta? Besides, I never really had much time to read, so it wasn't something I had a need for. Just, can we get just a tutor or something? I just need a couple of lessons, and then I-"
"I will teach you," Nesta interupted my rambling. Now, it was my turn to blink at her. "You will teach me? But why?" I asked.
"We will start tomorrow." Was the only thing Nesta said in response.

It had been weeks since the conversation I had with Nesta. Nesta was, as it turned out to be, an excellent, but merciless tutor. My learning pace has been torturously slow, according to her, so she had me reading books every hour of the day in which I wasn't eating or sleeping. Sure, I had made a lot of progress, but I was nowhere near reading novels yet. I was sat behind a desk in my room, reading over a book written for teenagers, when a soft knock on my door broke my focus.
"Amelia, will you join us for lunch?" Elain's soft voice sounded through my door. Sighing, I shut the book. I could feel my head throbbing with an upcoming headache. "Yes, I will. I'll be out in a minute, Elain." I answered.
I gently pushed my chair back and walked towards the dining room. Nesta said at the head of the table, taking father's place as he was away on travels, while Elain was seated on her right. I made my way to my usual spot on her left.
