chapter 15

Our five years rent is about to expire and there's only one month left.The money daddy has been managing since the incident too is going low.

With all the hospital charges he paid during mummy's stay in the hospital,foodstuffs he bought even though we've changed our time table since then,we only eat expensive dishes once in a while as daddy would always say"The fact that we don't have money doesn't mean we can't eat healthy foods,food is life"

There is so much next year.Daddy called for a family meeting as usual in our usual venue.

We all assembled as he began to speak "I'm sorry everything has changed, we are going through difficult times and things are getting tough. I'm sure you all know our five years rent is expiring in the next one month and the bank too have sent me notice to pay back the loan I collected "
"What do we do then?"mummy asked
"That's why I called all of you to hear your opinion "daddy said.
"How much loan did you collect from the bank?"I asked.
"Fifty million naira"He replied
"That's quite much.I think the only solution we have is to sell all the cars"I said and all eyes were on me,which means alot of questions are coming my way.

I quickly continued in other to clear their doubts "well I mean,we can leave one for our personal use"

There are five cars in the house,two for daddy,one for mummy, one for our school and the other for family outing.

"I buy the idea"Daddy said after thinking for a while.
"But I don't think selling the cars will make it up for the bank loan let alone pay for the house rent"mummy said.

"Yeah you are right"daddy said in agreement
"Well then,sell the cars first and let's see how much money we are going to gather then we can know what step to take next" I suggested

"What did you give the bank as mortgage before collecting the loan?"Mummy asked daddy
"The company ofcourse" daddy said looking confused.
"But don't you lands that you can sell daddy instead of the cars? I don't think one can can be enough for the family "Stephanie said
"I have no lands left,the one I kept to start building house was used to raise the fund for the contract "
"That's a mess"I murmured to myself

We all agreed on selling four cars as daddy dismissed the meeting and went out to find a dealer.

Daddy came back after six hours, he called us and his looks were so discouraging.
There was silence for about 15 minutes before mummy finally broke the silence"How did it go honey,tell us something "
"We were able to get 8 million naira from the cars?"
"Eight million?they are worth more than that"mummy gasped in surprise
"You know they are not knew,some even said 6 million. But thank God I was able to get eight million out of them"

Eight million won't solve anything,even our rent for one year is 5 million. The house is actually a very huge mansion and even in the urban area.If you see the house, you'll say it's worth more than that.

My siblings tuition fees too is quite expensive.Daddy pays 200 thousand each for stephanie and steven for first term,150 thousand for second and third term each.

For Rose and paul,it's 1.3 million every year because their tuition fee is more expensive than that of steven and stephanie.Approximately he pays 2.3 million each year for all of them since I'm now a graduate, mine isn't included.

With all the calculations, 8 million cannot solve our problems.And with the 50 million loan from bank,we don't know what to do with eight million naira.

After some weeks,the bank were on daddy's neck to pay back the loan else they'll auction the company for a big bid.

He couldn't raise funds to pay back the loan so he had no option than to just give them the company and of the bidder we have no idea.

It was a great loss for us,it was the only source of income we have.Had it been they give him some more time he can use the 8 million for a business and raise the fund.

But what good will it make,I forgot the company have been charged for supplying illegal drugs and have been shut down for investigations that nobody knows when how long it will take.

We decided to pay five million to our landlord for one year,so we still have one more year to live in the house before we God shows us a way out.

I couldn't believe we've lost the company that our whole life depends on.
