Cora: Age 10

Toya: Age 13

Toya pulled his jacket on as the train slowed to a stop. As he was about to open the door to make his escape, he heard a familiar voice outside, the voice of his father. The strangest sensation came over him. It felt like he was being watched, it had been happening frequently throughout the day. He shuddered at the feeling and backed away from the door searching desperately for another way out. He caught a glimpse out the small porthole style window and spotted his father barking orders at several police officers to search the train. There was a girl a few years his junior at his father's side.

He lingered near the window to get a better look at her. She was wearing a plain white dress with a serial number stitched on the front. He noticed a little spattering of dried blood near the collar. Another glance and he realized it must have been from the wound to her brow that was covered with a single bandage. There were bandages wound around her upper arm though they appeared to not have been wrapped well as they were loose and starting to slip revealing ghastly discoloration. It appeared several blood vessels in her arm had ruptured, he had a good guess as to who the cause of that was from the tense way she stood at his father's side. Her hair was a pretty teal color and fell to her shoulders though there were two thin strips of white framing her face. Her eyes were a cloudy unseeing white. She wore a curious expression.

"Can you see him?" His father barked at the girl startling her, "which car is he in?"

Toya felt his heart begin to race, was the girl the one who'd been looking in on him all day. He glanced around for any sign of something watching him. "Don't." He breathed quietly and watched as the girl outside reacted to his voice, jerking slightly. "If you can hear me, don't give me away." He said a little louder and watched as the girl shrank a little at the idea of lying to his father. He grimaced as he realized he put her in a very tough situation.

"Well?" His father roared at her.

The blind girl closed her eyes and made a show of rubbing them, the moment her eyes were shut Toya no longer felt the watchful presence. "...my eyes hurt..." Her voice was soft.

"Start searching the cargo holds." Endeavor barked at the surrounding officers.

The watchful presence returned sending a shiver down his spine. Toya noticed the blind girl pointing downward. Her blank eyes were fixed on him. He took a step away from the window and scanned the floor. There was a trap door. He could use it to escape. "Thank you." He breathed quietly as he scrambled for the trap door.

Cora held her breath as she watched Toya slip through the trap door. He managed to hide beneath the train, out of sight just as one of the officers opened the door to the car he'd been hiding in. She prayed she'd made the right decision to help him escape, but wasn't sure how she was going to keep up the charade. She wished she could talk to him.

Once she spotted a clear path for him to make his exit, she gave him another hand signal, pointing in the safe direction praying he would take her direction. She focused on him and smiled as he took off in the direction she had indicated, without anyone noticing.

They were at the station for hours scouring the entire train from top to bottom, but Toya was long gone. Cora kept her eyes closed and pretended they hurt from using her quirk so much. Once it had gotten late, the kind police officer insisted they retire for the night as Cora was still very young and needed rest. Endeavor reluctantly agreed and they went to a nearby hotel to retire.

Cora laid on the comfortable sofa in the room waiting until her newest wardens fell asleep. It was much more comfortable than the cot in the prison. Once she was sure Endeavor and the police officer were asleep, she opened her eyes and focused on her surroundings. She watched them for a moment taking note of their breathing patterns and once she was sure they'd fallen asleep, she sat up off the sofa and crept to the mini fridge containing the uneaten dinner the police officer had gotten her. She tiptoed through the darkness to the window and managed to open it without waking either of the sleeping men.
