chapter 6. To Hurt Someone Else

"Yuuen, Did you finish washing the dishes?" The gruff voice of her father, Taiga Morito, called. It had been a few months since his change of heart and the two had thankfully made up into a much healthier relationship.

"Already done, Dad." She replied simply, scrolling through some random social media app, finding nothing too interesting to look at.

Soon a notification popped up on her phone as her face lit up in curiosity.

It was a group text from Makoto addressed to all the current members of the Phantom Thieves.

'Some of you might have already known this,' Read the text message, 'But Principal Kobayakawa committed suicide during our trip to Hawaii.'

'He what?!' Ryuji responded quickly, the chat bursting up into comments of either confusion and or shock between the members.

Yuuen was at a loss for words, not a single reason or indication of why he would do such a thing could process in her mind.

'I don't understand...' She typed cautiously, 'He didn't seem depressed or even upset when we were at school, wouldn't someone notice if he was acting suicidal?'

'That's what I was thinking, most people are saying it's because of the guilt of covering up Kamoshida's crimes for so long.' Makoto replied, hesitance evident in her answers despite it just being over text.

'Do you think us changing Kamoshida's heart had to do with it?' Ann typed back, clearly troubled by the dilemma at hand.

'I'm not sure. However, we should have a meeting to discuss this after school tomorrow. I'm just telling you now because you will have a morning assembly tomorrow morning about both the passing of our principal along with the Kamoshida case.' Makoto responded, Yuuen unable to keep the frown from forming on her face.

'That sounds like a plan to me.' Akira typed back, the group all responding in agreement.

'Alright, let's meet up after school then.' Makoto declared as the chat room finally settled down to a close.

Yuuen couldn't help but wonder though, 'Did Principal Kobayakawa really commit suicide?'

She didn't have absolutely any reason to not believe it was suicide, but something just didn't resonate with the entire story.

Her frown deepened.

"Is something wrong, Yuuen?" Her father raised his brow, noticing Yuuen's pensive expression.

She shook her head simply, "No, nothing important. Anyways, how are things going with Kiyomi-san?" She asked curiously, trying to lighten up the melancholy mood of the room.
