love and lust

This is completely unrelated to the book but here's a poem I wrote a couple weeks ago for a poetry slam

You know who you are

I am gay
No that does not mean I'm weak
No that does not mean I lust and love after every guy I see
No that does not mean I'm a girl
It means I am brave it means that I am powerful it means that I go against the stereotypes of the typical black man
Everyday I step out of my house proud and unashamed of who I am is a statement
But you wouldn't know that would u
All you focus on is he likes guys so he must like me
When we get into arguments you say things like your gay I'm not gonna waste my time fighting you
Well guess what...get over yourselves
You a no ren't cute and you aren't tough
And you aren't better than me
In fact I'm more a man than any of you
I stand up for what I believe in
I'm not afraid to defy the standard or the norm
And I don't let my friends run over me
I don't see how you do
You talk about your friends behind their back and then show up the next day like nothing ever happened
You plan fights
You argue over what's essentially meaningless
You take sides and
Whenever something happens you're the first to give your so called "friends" the dirty look and yet I'm less of a man
I don't see how this makes sense
It's fine though because if I were to disappear tmr and it be your fault you wouldn't care
You'd laugh and say I was being dramatic
And that it was just a joke
Well.....it's not a joke to me
But I won't let that happen
I have a lot to offer the world
And to let you take me from it would be the most horrid of deeds
So guess what
