Dream or Clay

My name is Clay but everyone knows me as Dream. Currently, I'm being hunted down. Why? I thought it was a good idea trying to hide among the people in the city after many years. Apparently not. I caught wind of news that they sent two of the best hunters out to get me. I'd face the best hunter they had, but two? No way. I wouldn't lose to them but it would deal a huge loss to me either way. Plus, they could always send more hunters after me.

Luckily, I was on the outer part of the city, not close to the capital- where most of the hunters were. If you looked on map, the city would be a patch- slowly fading out into the wilderness. The center of that patch, was the capital. That was where the wealthy and rich lived. If you could get a job there, you were considered lucky. People who worked there earned a lot of money.

Those hunters were most likely in the main building, located in the capital- preparing to hunt me down. Or they were in the other smaller buildings- already on my tail. Either way, I didn't see many guards around so I assumed that it was a Sunday and they were going to get me the next day. Most likely, they would've been warned about my traps and trickery. I used to be an adventurer- an experienced one in fact- so they knew to be careful.

I had a normal life before all of this. Then, we heard of the lost civilisation, one smarter than us. They were trapped in a dimension called 'The End' and I wanted to free them and so did others. However, people said that freeing The End would cause the world to end. That was somewhat believable since the name of the dimension was called The End.

We did research and found a way. From the failed attempts, we learned that we had to get something called an 'eye of ender' which we later found out was made from blaze power and ender pearls. Blaze power was made from blaze rods, which could be obtained by killing a blaze in the nether. Ender pearls were obtained by killing endermen.

Soon after, we had almost successful attempts, the public caught on and they wanted us to stop. I had to go into hiding after. The people named us speedrunners. Why? They believed that we were trying to speedrun life. Trying to end it as fast as we could.

I shook my head, snapping myself out of my thoughts and went to get my supplies and started running away from the city- they would come sprinting for me, might as well get a headstart. I took out my phone and decided to see who had messaged me. I didn't have any internet when I was away from the city.

----o0o----

They just assigned me and Sapnap another case. On this person named Dream. Weird. I regret even trying to work my way up here. It's like being given more work but being paid for less. Sure, I was getting more than I would've gotten as a guard but it's only a little more and I had significantly more work.

Sapnap on the other hand, was excited for each new mission. Sapnap is one of my best friends- who I've known for almost my whole life. I had 2 other friends I was close with- Darryl and Clay.

Darryl and I still talked but we couldn't hang out as often anymore due to my new position. Clay... well, he disappeared out of nowhere. I tried many times to contact him but he didn't respond. At first, I thought he was just mad at me and was ignoring me. However, when I asked Darryl and Sapnap about Clay, they told me that he didn't respond to them either.

Clay just disappeared without a trace. I tried looking for him but I couldn't find anything. His file just had basic information- nothing else.

I was snapped out of my thoughts by a ding from my phone.

I check it. It was from Clay. My eyes lit up and my stomach was filled with excitement, I quickly unlocked my phone, wondering what he had said after so many years.

'Hey, did something happened, you kinda just disappeared'

'Clay! It's been a long time, did you fix your internet?'
Sent 3 years ago, seen just now

'Seriously, what happened? I talked to Bad and Sapnap, are you mad at them?'
Sent 2 years ago, seen just now

'Clay? You doing okay?'
Sent a year ago, seen just now

'Yeah.'
'Something happened and don't worry, I'm not mad at any of you'

I sighed and typed my reply...

'Clay! Where are you now? Can we meet up?'

'Sure but I'm going somewhere soon'
'Do you want to meet up at the edge of the city?'

'Ok, why are you all the way there though?'

He typed out something, stopped and started typing again.

'I went to visit one of the villages'
'Meet me at the coffee shop nearest to the exit'

The coffee shop there was surprising. Usually, shops near the outer parts of the city wouldn't have good food or anything. However, that coffee shop was so popular that some people from the capital would travel all the way there to get food from there. Anyway, his message explained why he wasn't able to answer any of my messages. There was no internet in the villages. I wonder what they look like. I have never been out of the city. Most of my missions were done in the city. I still wonder what the outside would look like- despite its dangers. I closed my phone and started walking towards where we were supposed to meet. I called out to Sapnap, as I walked out of the building

"Sapnap! I'm going to meet Clay, I'll be back soon"

Before he could reply, I had already walked out of the building. I grabbed my bicycle and started going over to where I was going to meet Clay. You would think that it was a rather boring journey but with my last task being researching, I was content with not being inside all day. To add to that fact, I was also going to meet with my best friend who I hadn't spoken to in years. Despite us not talking, I still considered Clay as my best friend. We had gone through a lot together and a lack of internet wasn't going to erase that.
