CHAPTER FOUR!! Molly P.O.V
Jade flirting was nothing I hadn’t seen before, so I laid back on the fuzzy beach towel and closed my eyes.
She is a master at flirting, probably because of all the practice she has had, she could charm the pants of anyone on she meets. Except my Dad... not that she hasn’t tried. KIDDING!
I couldn’t help but feel slightly jealous of her freedom, the fact that she wasn’t tied down to anyone. Sometimes I wonder myself why I’m still with Peter, is it just that I’m afraid of being single or do I just hate disappointing people?
I snapped awake, my phone buzzing in my hand.
From Peter:
Why won’t you tell me where you are? Come over right now!
Sigh. He used to trust me, but ever since he cheated, well he changed. It’s like he thinks I’ll do the same to him. I roll my eyes, I would never, ever-
“Hey,” a smooth male voice quipped. When I looked up, my reaction was- holy guacamole! I saw a muscled body, with naturally tanned skin, blue eyes, wavy blonde hair and a cute smile.
Er...what was I thinking? Oh yeah, I’d never cheat. Not that he doesn’t deserve it... stupid Hilda!
“Hey,” I countered disinterestedly, looking down at my phone again. I felt his eyes linger on me for a second before he walked away.
“What the hell?” Jade asked furiously, “he was hot, damn!”
“I’m taken,” I muttered sadly.
“Sometimes I wonder why you’re still taken!” she said, throwing her hands in the air
“Bad moment?” Cody said, standing awkwardly beside us. Our eyes snapped up, remembering his presence.
“I’ll call you later Cody,” Jade purred seductively.
“Okay babe,” he replied. Ugh, that is so disgusting - they just met for celery’s sake! Oh
my...I did not seriously just say celery. I’ve been hanging out with Jess too long...
“Hey, Vas Happenin?” she says, shining like a beacon in her bright green wetsuit.
Speak of the devil...
“Jess, I’m not speaking to you until you take that off. Its for your own good,” I told her.
“Fine!” she huffed, but took the opportunity to let her wet hair drip all over Jade and me.
“Ew, go away!” Jade squealed, she was a bit of a girl and hated getting wet.
Jess gave us the evil eye, grabbed her stuff and then strolled of to the change rooms. I felt someone poke my arm.
“I’m not letting you change the subject so easily,” Jade growled.
“What subject?” I asked, even though I knew perfectly well what she was talking about.
“I don’t think you’re in love with Peter anymore!” she said a matter of factly.
I stayed silent, so she continued on her rant.
“Tell me honestly, does he make you happy?” she asked.
I pondered it.
“No,” I admitted, a little surprised I hadn’t figured this out earlier.
“Does he make you feel loved?” she asked again
I smiled sadly.
“Not any more,” I said truthfully. It’s true.
“Then how can you say that you love him?” she finished, finally driving her point home.
“I...I can’t!” I whispered, “I don’t love him!”
“Then end it. Jess and I don’t like seeing you like this Molly. No-one does!” she cried, “you haven’t been yourself since that whole thing with Hilda!”
I nodded. Yes.
“It’s time to move on,” she said softly, putting her hand on my arm.
If there’s one thing I learned, it’s to never judge a book by it’s cover. I mean, when I first met Jade, I would have said she was about as deep as a puddle. But then I guess the ocean is just one great big puddle, isn’t it?
...
I reached up to press the doorbell and caught a glimpse of the slight sunburn. Stupid ginger genes.
Bring.
I heard footsteps on the other side and my stomach dropped.
This is it.
He opened the door and I saw his eyes flash with surprise and then- guilt.
“I thought you were busy!” he cried, looking shiftily over his shoulder.
“I had a change of plans,” I explained meekly.
“Well...you can’t come in,” he said, using his body to block the doorway.
Why is he acting so weird? Unless...
“Peter honey, who are you talking to?” a high-pitched voice drifted from the lounge, “ I’m cold without anyone to snuggle with.
Oh no. Not again. I recognise that voice from last time.
My eyes widened in shock, then narrowed in disgust.
I shake my head disappointedly, “I’m done.”
“What do you mean?” he asks.
But I don’t answer him, instead I just turn around and walk away.
For the first time in my life, I don’t even care what he thinks. All I can think about is that it’s over, and I realize... it has been for a long time.
