Jess here!
Chapter Five
“Does my bum look big in this one?” Jade asked doubtfully, twisting around to check for herself. It didn’t quite work.
“No” I replied shortly. What? You would too if this was the 19th time she asked you! Yes, I counted.
“Oh okay” she said, her face dropping. I looked at her funny. So, she wanted her bum to look bigger? I would have said yes if I’d known…
“Jess?” she asked uncertainly, “What about this one?”
“Oh my god! It looks perfect! You should so buy it! I bet all of the boys will notice you in that!” I squealed, clapping my hands and bouncing up and down. Molly and her both looked at each other.
“Well, I liked the other one” she said decisively, “Let’s grab it and go!”
Yes! I punched the air as soon as she went back into the changing room. Molly walked out of hers holding some clothes she was going to buy.
“That was the fakest fangirling I ever heard” she told me, cocking an eyebrow. I shrugged.
“It got us out of here, right?” I asked. She couldn’t argue with that. Shopping with Jade is one very long process.
We were out shopping because we needed concert clothes. Er, no. Correction, they needed concert clothes. I was dragged along to be judge.
It’s been the best summer since ever. We’ve done it all, quad biking, surfing, rock climbing, camping, lazy days on the beach and those dreaded shopping trips. I don’t usually hate shopping, I mean you can’t complain about hanging out in an air conditioned mall. Especially when it’s 1000 degrees outside and your sandals melt as soon as they make contact with the ground. Ok, so I’m exaggerating, but that’s what it feels like!
So the girls and I headed to the shops so that they could buy clothes to wear so that the boys of one direction would notice them. Please, I hate to break it to them, but there will be another billion girls there. So the moral of the story is, don’t drag Jess along to do boring shopping. Just don’t do it.
“Are you sure you don’t want anything?” Molly asked, glancing at me.
“Yep. Very sure. Let’s get outta-“
“The concert is tomorrow!” she protested, interrupting.
“I have a whole wardrobe of clothes! I don’t need more, just because of a concert!” I cried, throwing my hands up.
“Ok, fine. Let’s go eat, where should we-“
“NANDO’S!” I interrupted. What? I love Nando’s! Not just because Niall loves it too, that’s a bonus. Oh that chicken…ahhhh.
“Stop drooling!” Jade said, fake slapping me on the shoulder.
“Not until I get my chicken!” I said stubbornly. They laughed at my antics, and I allowed myself a small smile.
“Alright then, let’s give baby her chicken” Molly cooed, making me frown.
“I am not cute!” I protested, as we walked into the cosy restaurant.
…
“I swear. That chicken, heavenly!” I mumbled, licking my fingers.
“Oh, that is gross!” Jade squealed. I threw her a look.
“Why are you such a girl, Jade?” I asked
“I don’t know, why are you such a boy?” she said countered. Oh, snap.
“Being a tomboy is easier than being a girly girl!” I protested, and stuck my tongue out like the mature human bean that I am.
“I’m bored!” Molly protested, resting her head on the table.
“Aww, Mollykins!” I cooed. She glared.
“I dare you to shout, I LOVE NANDO’S!” she said suddenly, with a playful smile.
“At the top of your voice!” she added, after re-thinking.
“Game o-“
I stopped abruptly. In the far corner of the café, I spotted five heads. Five familiar heads. No way…
“Go!” Jade said, her eyes shining at the thought of my embarrassment. That girl, she is so evil sometimes. I took a deep breath.
“I LOVE NANDO’S!” I yelled. Everyone in the restaurant literally turned around and eyed me disapprovingly. Even the dishwasher. Even- the boys in the corner.
I held my breath as their faces, but let it out.
Aw, celery sticks. They weren’t boys, they were men. They had long twirly moustaches and sunglasses.
I felt a hand grab mine and I was dragged out of the shop.
…
“Oh, he’s hot!” Molly squealed. She’s certainly been a lot happier since she ended it with Peter. Her eyes shine more, and she doesn’t hold back when commenting on a certain guys hotness factor. It makes me happy to see her happy.
“What do you think?” she asked, nudging me. Oh, did I mention that she’s forever trying to get me to notice guys. Well I do notice them, but my thoughts are usually along the lines of-
“He’s fit, but I could probably kick his ass in a boxing match” I stated. She rolled her eyes, muttering something under her breath.
“You’re impossible!” she cried suddenly. I smiled.
“I’ll tell you what, Molly. If you can find a guy who’ll beat me at running and boxing, I promise I’ll notice him” I said. Her eyes widened with hope.
“Promise? Pinky swear it!” she said, clearly not trusting me. We linked pinkies, just as we have since pre-school.
“I promise” I said. It’s never going to happen, I know it.
…
Erk, so much dialogue! And so short! I hope you didn’t mind…
I’m sorry this is so late and nothing much happened, but we zoomed forward in time to the end of the summer and it’s CONCERT TIME! Watch out for more frequent changes in POV for the next few chapters!
