After we both returned to our offices, as usual, I finished filing a report of what Shadow had done and said to me. As I was setting my black pen down, I looked up at the clock and it was about time to leave. I gently rubbed my sore wrist of where the fresh, updated barcode presided. I inhaled sharply because the area was so sensitive and painful to the touch. It felt like there was something actually in my arm, and I wouldn't be surprised if Midas had put a chip in my wrist just to be extra cautious. But damn, it hurt.
My phone buzzed and a message displayed on it from Midas, "Go to the yacht at 7"
I sat there and began to wonder how he got my number because I didn't remember giving it to him, but he honestly probably put it in while I was gone.
"Why so late?" I texted back. Minutes passed by and he didn't text back. I grabbed my things and decided to head back to the other agency. Before I left, I decided to stop by Midas's office and ask him why our date was so late in person, so he had to answer.
I walked out of my office and locked it behind me for the night, and headed towards his office until a henchman stopped me.
"Is that a rash?" His deep voice murmured under his mask. I gently touched my neck where Midas had left his mark.
"N-No," I said, and looked back at my hand, and gold sparkles were on my fingertips along with the caked concealer.
"I see." He said.
"Don't tell anyone!" I whispered aggressively.
"Your secret is safe with me, ma'am," He nodded his head and walked away. I stood there for a second and then continued walking to Midas's office.
I stood in front of his door and heard his voice echoing around the room, but I quietly opened the door and found him pacing back and forth with a phone to his ear. A cigarette rested between his golden fingers as the other hand supported the black and gold antique-like phone. He turned and looked at me and smirked as he continued negotiating with the other person on the line.
I sat down on his desk and observed the room, noticing that the cameras in his office were no longer present.
"You see, Mr. V, I feel as if I don't work as well under supervision. I am a spy, after all," Midas said, and hit his cigarette after negotiating with his boss. I heard the man pause and then begin to ramble. Midas smiled and rolled his eyes.
"I don't like being watched, especially after this 'incident'," He said and leaned his back against the wall, placing a foot on it behind him. The man continued to talk.
"I have nothing to hide, sir, you know me well enough by now," Midas said. The man sighed over the phone and talked slowly.
"I understand, thank you, sir. Thank you for understanding what I'm coming from, I won't disappoint," Midas said. The man said a few words.
"Alright, alright, you have a good one now. Goodbye," Midas and hung up the phone.
"Hell yes!" He exclaimed and punched the air in a happy way.
"What was that for?" I asked.
"So I can do this." He walked over and kissed me as I sat on the cold desk. I smiled against his lips and we released.
"No more cameras?" I asked and tilted my head as he stood in front of me proudly.
"Nope. I told him I wasn't comfortable being watched in personal areas anymore, especially since Shadow can easily hack them," He said.
"I never had cameras in my office," I said.
"That's what you think," He said, "but they put them in places so it's easy to do something wrong and thinking they'll never find out."
