The next day at work, I noticed that I hadn't seen Midas for a few hours. I saw him in the hallway a few times but other than that, he didn't come to visit me or call me to his office for work to do, he just sent me everything over the computer.

I thought to myself, maybe it's a good thing. After we kissed yesterday, I just stayed with Skye again for the rest of the night. I told her about what had happened and she promised she wouldn't tell anyone but Midas didn't discuss the privacy of it with me. He could've told someone and I wouldn't know.

I easily got bored with filing profiles into the computer and other paperwork that Midas assigned me to until I heard a knock at my door.

"Come in," I said as I was studying the papers below me. The door opened and it was Skye.

"Hey, how are you doing?" She asked while walking towards my desk.

"I'm okay, just bored. My head hurts a little bit from last night," I said while taking my glasses off and rubbing my temples.

"Yeah, you were out of it last night," She said, looking down at the black marble floor, "I just wanted to check up on you."

"Have you heard from Midas at all?" I asked.

"No, actually, I haven't, he's been busy all day. He had to go to a lot of meetings." She said.

"I just hope last night didn't ruin anything, I don't want him to lose his job," I said.

"He won't. I know Maya said he can't fire himself but there are people of higher power than him. He could get a stern talking to but I don't think he'd actually lose his position. It'd probably be best to just give each other space to regulate your feelings," She said. I felt my heart sort of drop.

"Yeah, it's probably best to just keep it professional from now on. He's just so heartfelt and interesting to me, but we can probably continue as friends," I said.

"Yes, that'd honestly help what's going on. I don't want you to lose your job because of this. I would worry about yourself more than him, everybody likes you around here. You do a great job at what you do, we really appreciate it," She said. I hid my emotions with a smile.

"Thank you, I appreciate that," I said. She nodded.

"Well, I should probably get going. We're all a little bit busy today, don't worry, it's not your fault at all. Just relax," She said and headed for the door and walked back out. I really appreciated Skye with how kind she was.

I wanted to talk to Midas so bad about last night because I was still worried about his job. He loves it here despite the judgement he gets. I worked up the courage to go to his office, so I paced myself down the hall to his office, pretending to get water just in case we run into each other.

As I silently stood by his office, I eavesdropped into a conversation while the door was closed.

"I understand it was an accident but you cannot have relationships with your coworkers, Midas. It's extremely unprofessional and we do not want a bad rep for this," A deep voice said.

"I understand, Sir," I heard Midas's tired, raspy voice echo.

"I'm glad. But listen, if I catch any gossip that you two are messing around like that again, her position would be terminated and you would have to be put on a suspension," The deep voice said.

"I understand, thank you, Sir," Midas said sincerely.

"Take care, M," The voice said. The conversation ended and I hid in the stairwell hoping this mysterious figure wouldn't see me. Nobody came out of the room so I assumed it was a video chat or the man transported into the office.
