Some hate graffiti, others love it. Graffiti is a form of art. Just because its not on a canvas or paper, or in art galleries or being exhibited doesnt mean its not art.
"Graffiti is writing or drawings made on a wall or other surface, usually as a form of artistic expression, without permission and within public view."
"Street art is art created on surfaces in public places like exterior building walls, highway overpasses, and sidewalks."
Creativity. It's a magnificent trait that all humans have, it comes in many forms. Graffiti and street art are a form of creativity. Street art and or graffiti can be used as a form of protest or a way of expression. Much like art, graffiti and street art can tell a story, or to show an emotion to connect to a viewer, using a single image.
Perhaps you are now asking yourself; whats the difference between Graffiti and Street Art? Well it's intention. People who create graffiti are not interested in whether the general public understands their artwork. They are more interested with other graffitist who can decipher the coded tags and appreciate the style of work. Whilst street art is more concerned about whether the art is appreciated by the general public.
Street art is sanctioned whilst graffiti is not. Another difference you will find is that street artists paint in broad daylight. Also, graffiti tends to be harder to read and most of the art – if not all of it – are tags.
Overall, both are beautiful. All forms of art are – whether you personally can appreciate it or not.
