Regret. A powerful emotion, one that is perceived as negative. Despite regret being a negative emotion, it does play some positive roles on our lives. Regret can be educational – if you allow it to be. It is also a way for us to be better people. When you are punishing yourself for something you regret, say, from ten years ago then there is a problem. You stop living the second you start beating up yourself over something you regret.
Regret makes us smarter, wiser, kinder to others and makes us take better care of ourselves. It helps us make better future choices, because if you regret not doing something then when something similar occurs, you can make a better choice using the knowledge of regret, to not make the same mistake in the future. Essentially, we should learn from our mistakes rather that dwell on them.
However, regrets don't have to be something you did. They can also be something you did not do. For example, maybe you regret not going travelling when you were younger, and now that you are older it's harder to travel. Not all regrets are easily overcome. However, they still not a life or death situation that must rule your life.
Any one who says that they any regrets, they are lying. Everyone has regrets whether they admit it or not. In my mind, I dont have any regrets, at this exact moment. Of course, I have regrets but I treat them as tasks that get tick off. Most of my regret have been things I haven't done, a few are things that I did do. But when the next opportunity I get to redo whatever the regret was I take that opportunity. Then I get on with my life. Time doesn't stop moving and neither does life.
Suck it up, get over it and continue.
I know easier said than done. But it's what you have to do.
