beacon hills was bigger than you had expected, and it was definitely bigger than your old school had bee. yet, students still had to squeeze through each other to get where they needed to. they brushed past you, knocking their shoulders into yours without care as they walked to their classes, whereas you hadn't the slightest clue of where you were supposed to be going.
the most you knew was your locker, it was your safe space, and the only place you'd been introduced to before the principal got called away by his secretary. you clutched your schedule in your hand, looking to the arrows on the walls of the hallways that pointed you to the cafeteria, bathrooms, and the library. there was nothing about room numbers.
sighing, you turned the corner towards the library– you were sure they could help you out. being too busy to pay attention, you bumped into yet another body. this time, it was a direct hit to your chest, and you stumbled.
the teenager barely faltered, but reached out to hold your arm, keeping you from fumbling into the lockers. he raised his eyebrows with concern, and slowly released his grip.
"i'm sorry, i totally wasn't paying attention," he said, eyes falling to the crumpled piece of paper gripped tightly in your hands.
"hi. hey, it was my bad," you said quickly, giving him a crooked grin. your eyes flickered around his face. "i was just– trying to find my way around."
he smiled, "is this your first day?"
nodding, you flashed your schedule to him for just a few seconds. "the principal kind of left me to fend for myself, and this place is really confusing."
"you have no idea, seriously." he laughed. "i'm scott, by the way."
"y/n."
his hands awkwardly found home in his pockets, eyebrows raised as he glanced down to your schedule. "so, what class are you going to now?"
"um..." you looked down, chewing on your bottom lip. "history with mr. gordon, room 208?" you seemed unsure of yourself, handing the paper over to him to check it out for himself. he began to examine it.
"yeah, uh, we have ap bio together, i think. and english." scott handed it back over, and then turned to point down a different hallway, opposite of the direction you were taking to the library. "just so you know, gordon is down that hallway."
you let out a bitter laugh. "of course it is. thank you, scott."

the next few classes you had were a struggle to find without scott, nor anyone else. no one seemed to notice you down the halls turning left and right, backward and forward to get to where you needed to be.
the easiest place to find was the cafeteria during your lunch period, you just followed the crowd of hungry students that swarmed through the double doors. you wouldn't be staying in there long, instead having to take the time to discuss with teachers what they had covered in their class before you moved. your choices were between after school and lunch, you chose lunch. you didn't consider it much of a loss anyway, you hadn't had the time to figure out who to sit with.
the lunch line was slow, and you only grabbed a water bottle to take with you. you paid for it, turning around to make it through the doors. instead, you were met with scott.
"hey, scott." smiling, you stepped out of the way of students coming in, your back against the windows. he mimicked your actions.
"hey!" he greeted happily. "how're you finding your classes?"
