Chapter Song: One Heart/ Million Voices by New Empire

I was running, that's all I could think as I passed houses and shops. But the thing was, I didn't know why I was running. Who I was running from or to. My feet just carried me to an unknown destination.

I stopped in the middle of the woods, the moon appearing between the tree tops, helping me see little of the path in front of me. A scream echoed, a shiver running down my spine at the sound. I didn't know where it was coming from. The scream was heard again, sounding like a girl although the pitch was much louder this time. It came from my left, my feet running towards it in a panic. I tripped and stumbled over sticks and fallen tree branches until I saw it.

Off in the distance sat a house, much familiar but as I tried to think back, my memory was foggy. I walked towards the house quietly, avoiding twigs and fallen tree branches. My inner conscience was screaming for me to turn away from the creepy house and run as fast as I could; but my feet moved at their own accord, right towards the scary-as-fuck house.

I walked up the porch steps, the wooden boards whimpering as if they'd collapse. I considered knocking on the door, but then I thought back to all the scary movies I'd watch where they never knocked because, well, that's just stupid. I opened the door, the paint on it cracked and chipped, and spoke softly into the quiet house." Hello?"

My response was silence, the tension so thick, the air seemed to tighten around me. A whimper sounded from down the hall, familiar to the terrifying scream.

I tiptoed down the hall, and came across the living room, the same living room at my house. Although it was a bit different. There was a small tv in the corner of the room, with a rug placed under the coffee table and old couches set around it. I bit my lip and kept moving, stepping through the doorway.

My breath hitched. Laying on the floor was a girl with dark curly hair, she laid on her stomach with a puddle of blood soaking through her dress. My thoughts immediately flew back to the picture I had found, the same dress, but how?

My hands flew to my mouth, covering any cries or screams that were about to escape. I wanted to see if she was breathing, but I stayed back in fear.

Footsteps pounded across the floorboards upstairs, coming towards the top of the stairs. I looked around quickly to find a place to hide; remembering the closet, I hid in there leaving the door cracked a bit.

The footsteps trailed into the room, sounding like boots gliding against the floor. I then saw the figure. It was a person, looking about over 6 foot, wearing a worn out green coat with a mop of brown hair on his head( I concluded it was a he). He got closer to the girl, his left foot lifting up and kicking her harshly in the side. A cry came from the girl, her body curling up into a ball.

"Get up ya bitch! You weak piece of shit!" The man yelled. The voice sounded familiar, but not as rough as I'd remembered.

He yanked the girl up by her hair when she stayed silent, tugging extra hard when she was standing up. Her face was finally revealed to me, but now I wish I hadn't seen it.

Lily

She fought in his grip, her nails scratching at his hands. A loud smack was heard as his hand made contact with her cheek." Move!" He demanded, pulling out a knife and pointing it at her back.

I still haven't seen the face to match the voice, I was almost scared to see if my suspicions were correct. Lily stumbled, half limping towards the doorway, trembling with each step. I moved my gaze passed her and to the man, almost  jumping in shock as my eyes met with cold ones.

I jumped up in bed, feeling the sweat soak into my skin. Goosebumps covered my arms as I tried getting over my initial shock of the nightmare. Those eyes that have haunted my dreams now haunt them in a different way. My left hand came to my mouth and the other one clutched my duvet.

Jason

I climbed out of bed and sped to my desk, pulling open a draw and out the journal. The leather was cold under my fingertips as I sat on my bed, flicking to the page where I kept a bookmark. A new paged was open and my eyes ran across the inked words.

        Dear Diary,

Things have gotten scarier, with Jason I mean. He has been more possessive and clingy than before, never letting me hang out with my friends either. He hit me yesterday. I was getting us both tea at his place when I dropped a mug by an accident. He heard the clatter and had raced into the room, fuming. I told him I was sorry and that it was just an accident but he wasn't having any of it. He smacked me in the face, and I knew it was going to bruise because of how much it stung.

He started calling me names, saying how useless I was. I wanted to leave, but I was too scared to. I only left when it was getting dark out and he made me leave. I walked home in the dark, alone and sobbing. I sneaked into my room when I got home, avoiding my family members. Now here I am. Writing in the only thing that keeps me sane. But isn't that what every teen would say?

I'm gonna have to wear concealer until the bruising goes down. Wish me luck.

        Love,
                Lily

I shook my head and turned to the next page.

                Dear Diary,

If someone told me this is what relationships would be like then I'd probably wouldn't have believed them. Until now really. Things have gotten more aggressive. Every time I do something wrong, I got punished for it. My brother hasn't found out yet but I'm sure if he did then he'd go in for the kill.

I have to go, Jason is coming over and I don't want him to find you now do I?

                        Love,
                                Lily

I was walking down the street with a coffee cup in hand, enjoying my afternoon walk as I'd gotten off work early. It was 3 pm right now and I was genuinely enjoying my alone time. Well, not really. I haven't spoken to Rosie in a while, and I'm heading over to her shop now. Maybe I might run into Niall, who knows?

I opened the door, the cute little bell chiming. Sitting behind the counter was Rose with a magazine in her hands with Brangelina on the front cover." I didn't know you were into the media?" I joked, scaring her a bit.

"For fucks sake, I'm trying to read about my otp you idiot!" says Rose, she tried to look mad but her smile ruined it. I was amused that she hadn't heard the bell under the door ring.

"Well I'm bored, and I want to have food with my best friend!"

"I'm you're bestfriend?"

I pretended to think." I could always ask Liam then if you don't wa-"

"NO NO! I'll take the offer! Do I get paid for this?" I laughed, shaking my head no. Rose sunk in her seat with a pout on her face, one that put a pug to shame." Well damn, I was about to quit this job but then my aunt would be pissed." I giggled.

"I love getting her pissed though."

"Oh Rose, I love you more than I should."
